Default Which phone company offers the least expensive calling card?

We used to use an AT&T calling card for making in-state long distance calls. When we began this a few years ago, it was very economical. Then, it seems, the phone companies had congress pass something allowing in-state minutes to "count" more, so that your 1,000-minute card might only last 333 minutes.

I'm sure someone has a better deal than AT&T is offering these days. Has anyone found the best deal?

P.S. Cell phones are not the answer for us.

I use a dial-around service when I have to call long distance. These are the state-to-state rates:

Specifically, I use the 10-10-220 number, where a 15 minute or less call is under $2.

To call within your state look up the plans here: http://1010phonerates.com/index2.php

I used to use OneSuite for long distance (before I went the Magic Jack route). It is very reasonable (less than $0.04 a minute I think) and you can save the numbers you call often in your account on their website and assign a numeric code. You can then put the OneSuite numbers in your Speed Dial, and when they ask you to input the number you want to call, you enter your code. So you don't have to dial a bunch of numbers each time. You can also refill your account online.

If you have a dollar tree around they sell 30 minute phone cards for $1 that is a little over .03¢ per minute!
