ISO NE PA Grain Dealers
DH gave me an early B-Day present. A Nutrimill Wheat Grinder. Love it. It grinds grains right down to a fine flour. Anyway, I am ISO a Grain Dealer here in Northeast PA (Prefer local) I have been looking on line but the shipping is a killer. Anyone out there in this region that can help me out would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1. If you have a State Wheat Commission, they may be able to give you a source for wheat.
2. Check with the County Ag. Agent if you have a County Extension Service. They may know of local/regional sources.
3. Your local health food store is also a source. They should be able to get it for you in bulk amounts as a special order. Make sure you ask them for at least 10% off if you take the bulk amount. Do you have any Amish Stores nearby?
4. You may be able to get it from a grain elevator or flour mill in the area.
I live in the middle of Kansas, surrounded by wheat fields, and there are more grain elevators in this area than we have grocery stores. I get Kansas-grown hard white winter wheat from a stone mill just outside of town that is distributed by the American White Wheat Processors Association through Farmer Direct Foods.
You don't want new-crop for milling. You'll get better results with wheat that's been aged a couple years.
Make sure you know what type of wheat you want.... All wheat is not created equally. I keep several varieties of wheat on hand for different uses:
-Hard White Winter Wheat - Farmer Direct Foods - 13.5% protein
-Hard White Spring Wheat - Wheat Montana - Prairie Gold - high protein
-Hard Red Spring Wheat - Wheat Montana - Bronze Chief - high protein
-Soft Wheat - Bob's Red Mill - low-protein
-Durum Wheat - used for wholegrain pasta and noodles

I have a hard time finding wheat in my rural local area and decided to go online to find what I needed and well, I found the same thing as you did, which was outragous shipping. I have found one place that is very, very fair on shipping especially for larger orders...
it is emergencyessentials their website is beprepared.com or phone is 1800 999 1863
they charge 6, 9 or 12 dollars for shipping, that is it...
the $12 is for orders over $120...which is super fair and almost cheaper than running all over to find what you need. They also have a ton of stuff and great buckets, and all. Order the catalog on line if interested...
Hope you find what you need locally, but if not, this is the next best thing.

Go to UNFI.com and look for a buying club in your area. They are great and depending on the club, you order once a month. Many bulk items.
Also look at clnf.com and see if they can ship to you. Just more options if you aren't able to find it locally.
