    Default homemade laudry detergent

Today I tried to buy washing powder in the wallyworld and there was none. Is there a brand or a manufacturer to look for? Is it the same as washing soda? Do any of you buy it online and if so, where?

Arm and Hammer washing soda. I found mine in a local grocery store. I know that Kroger carries it. If you don't have a Kroger near you, check with the locally owned grocers, they are more likely to have it.

Publix carries it if you are near one.

If your local grocery store doesn't carry it, ask if they will get it for you as a special order. As an option, and perhaps a less expensive option (I haven't checked prices recently), washing soda is Sodium Carbonate and can be purchased at Swimming Pool Supply Stores.

If you're trying to make homemade laundry detergent, Arm & Hammer washing soda in the yellow box is what you're looking for. It's not the same thing as baking soda, and the two are not interchangeable.

I get mine at Krogers, and my soap (Zote) comes from Save-A-Lot. The only ingredient for the homemade detergent that Wal-Mart seems to carry is borax. From what I understand, smaller grocery stores seem to carry washing soda more reliably than the large ones, so be sure to check there, too.

If all else fails and you don't have a pool supply store nearby, stock up on sodium carbonate when Wal-Mart puts it out with its summer items in the toy/sporting goods section.
