Is there such a thing as a loaves and fishes party? How would it work?
As you all know from my recent post, I have a very big cookout a couple of weekends ago. And since then....we have alot of leftovers. It turns out, in terms of what people brought we ended the party with MORE food and MORE beer than we started with!
So this weekend, I asked some friends over for a very casual "drive by..." (inspired by forHISglory!) to eat some of the food, and have a glass of wine/beer/lemonade, etc. And again, when they left it seemed like we had more food than we started with!
There must be a way to do something good and practical with this. It seems like a churchy thing to do. Would someone have a loaves and fishes party for someone - ask guests to "bring pantry items" in exchange for some inexpensive simple apps and drinks?
I'm playing with this idea. I suspect church groups already do this sort of thing, but I got this idea of a "loaves and fishes party" in my head (like a memory) and I don't know if it's real or not.

Hi Love your idea, I have never heard of it but at my Church we have a brown bag baby shower every few months for the crisis pregnancy center. We have games, cake, punch, and a light lunch. Everyone brings new baby gifts not wrapped. Some bring used expensive items like cribs, play pens etc. We have fun and everything goes to a good cause.

You could donate the leftover food you don't want to the local homeless shelter or treatment center.
“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
