'Broccoli in Your Garden' Question
I just was curious to know if broccoli grows back after cutting? The plant is very big, and I'm not sure to pull it once I cut the broccoli. This is our first time gardening, and we have lots of questions. Thank you so much in advance.
An obstacle is what comes up when you lose sight of your goal.

QM, you should have a main head, with a couple of smaller heads underneath (one on each side). If you cut the main head, the smaller heads will get bigger, so you should be able to get three heads of broccoli from each plant. They won't get as big as the main one, but they'll get about 1/2-2/3 size. Just don't let them flower (although they are beautiful if you do.

Yep, madhen is right on. Sometimes my 'side shoots' are more tender than the main head.
Wow, I am surprised that it hasn't bolted yet. Enjoy the fruits of your labor.........isn't it fun having a garden?

Brocc does so poorly for me in NC. I guess we aren't cool enough for it or something even though others seem to make some grow where I can't!! It bolts very fast for me. I gave up.
good advice from the board.
good luck with it and enjoy that delish brocc!!!! YUMMY

Ours is growing more. I wondered the same thing about brussel sprouts though.

MH is right on with her assessment. Brussels sprouts will come back also depending on the weather. Hot weather will make them bitter.

Depends on the variety, can't remember them all, but I think packman is the best for side shoots, I can get them to propduce as long as I want to tend the plants. Sometimes I have to shear quite a bit, till it gets cool, but it always comes back for me, and just keeps bearing. Think Comet is one of those with the great big heads, and not as good for side shoots. Or I could have it turned around. Anyway just like most veggies different varieties differ.
Probably better to just start some new plants for fall though, having the big plants just attracts pest when they aren't producing. You'll have better luck anyway. I'm set up in my laundry room to start the plants instead of out doors. Easier for me on plants like Broccoli.
