Printing coupons
Coupons seem to be a way of life for most of you.
I rarely have any coupons to use. I don't get the
newspaper; I only subscribe to one magazine.
My main question is about printing coupons. I had
a "faulty" food item awhile back, emailed the company,
and they sent me a coupon. When I tried to use it at
Walmart, the checkout girl was quite hateful, and said,
in a very loud accusatory voice, 'DID YOU PRINT THIS?"
Then she told me she couldn't take it.
I know you can go to websites of the products you are
interested in and click on a tab for coupons. Do most
places take printed coupons obtained this way?
If so, do you just print them on regular copy paper,
or is there something special you need for this?
Thanks so much!

The trick is finding stores that actually take internet printed coupons. The last time I looked into it, Wal-Mart company policy was to accept them. However, some have been known to try and not accept them. Sometimes it takes getting a manager to the register and having a copy of the WM company policy in hand to show them you know what you are talking about. But that is a lot of work and personally, not worth it for me. I am fortunate that two grocery stores (Publix and Winn-Dixie) and two drug stores(CVS and Walgreen's) near my home take internet printed coupons. I called the stores, ask for a manager, and find out from them what their policy is regarding internet printed coupons before using them at their stores. Also, I get the manager I spoke with name just in case there is an issue. I have also found that one location of Publix will take them but the other location five miles down the road will not. So, if you call make sure you call the exact location you are going to be shopping at.
I print mine on the cheapest copy paper I can find and do them in black and white, no color. Since most websites I can only get three coupons to a piece of paper, I can't see using any but the cheap stuff.Last edited by Neeley; 08-06-2009 at 07:58 PM.

I also print mine on the cheapest copy paper. I, like you, have had bad experiences with WalMart wanting to take internet printed coupons. I gave up and just stopped doing my grocery shopping there. The only grocery store left for me to shop at is HEB and they gladly accept them as long as they will scan with no problems. I never had a problem at CVS or Walgreens accepting them either.

I personally have never had a problem with WalMart not taking my printed coupons (knock on wood). But I know that some cashiers don't like to take them because apparently there was some scam not too long ago where people were making fake coupons that gave them money back or something. I dunno exactly what it was.. but if you carry a copy of their coupon policy, they will usually take it. My only advice is to make sure you print it in color and on a decent quality setting. They have to be able to scan the barcode on it. I know some people have stopped shopping at WalMart for that reason, but I still go there just because they will match prices and take coupons. I save at least $6 or $7 minimum every time I go, just because of price matching and coupons.
If you continue to go there with printed coupons, try to remember not to go to the same girl

I had problems with Walmart taking coupons a while back. Now I just go through the Self Checkout aisle, scan my groceries, and my coupons with no problems.
FYI - I only purchase certain grocery items at Walmart - mainly items that my regular grocery store doesn't carry. My regular grocery store (Kroger) has no problems taking any of my coupons.Mary

I gave up on trying. Too much of a hassle to print coupons that you can't use. Waste of paper & ink IMO.
