FedEx and Directv returning package
Well, I finally got rid of Directv. Now I need to return the receivers, cards, and remotes back to Directv. Now I have read that it is best to get a request to have a signature of receipt (not sure what it is called) sent back to me. Apparently Directv can get a little "tricky". So I want to do this. The problem is I called FedEx to ask about this. The person was really confusing. Does anyone know what I am supposed to request. Is Express Saver the best way to send the package. Also, can I print out a label from my computer to send the package and have someone come and pick the package up at my home.
I need really specific information. Figured someone on this site will know the correct answer.

I just checked 3 ways to ship a pkg. They were all very close in price. UPS, USPS, and Fed ex. Check out the USPS.com (post office site). They will tell you what the name of the paper you want signed and returned. They sign it and then you receive a card in the mail signed so you have proof that they received what you sent. Hi,
I think delivery confirmation is what you want. They have to sign a paper saying they rec'd your package. Copied the above from the United States Postal service (USPS.com) That way you will have proof that they rec'd the package.

I sell online and ship packages under three lbs by USPS Priority Mail and over three lbs by FedEx Ground.
No matter how you ship, you need some sort of signature confirmation (not just delivery confirmation). It is only a couple of extra dollars no matter how you ship.Mary

I agree. I would get a delivery confirmation. This will show they received it because someone will have to sign for it. Good luck!

Direct TV should give you a UPS return box for each of the receivers you need to mail back. It's basically just an empty box and inside there will be a postage paid sticker that you attach to the outside of the box once you've packed your receiver in it. DO NOT spend a dime of your own money to ship these items. If you have not received these boxes, call them up and ask them for a recovery kit for each receiver.
I mailed mine off and got a letter within a week or two saying that I had a credit to the account due to returned equipment. If you're not happy trusting them to give you credit, I'd call UPS and explain to them that DTV is going to send you a recovery kit with postage paid labels and ask if there's any way to get a receipt or confirmation for the shipped items.~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~

Well I received the box from Directv to send the equipment back to them via FedEx. Nishu, I am not sure why they sent your box with UPS stickers.
I am assuming you did not have any problems with the package being sent just the way they told you.

Actually it was fed ex, now that I think of it. Sorry!
No, I had no problems with sending it back. I don't like DirectTV and I don't think they're an honest company, but I don't think they're running a scam by forcing you to pay for the gear. I had mine for at least a couple months before they charged me for it, and when I turned them in a few weeks after they charged me, they gave me credit for returning them quickly and I should be getting a check soon. (I guess time will tell, but I do have a paper showing a positive balance so I don't expect a problem.)
Whatever complaint I have with them, this isn't one of them.~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~

Thanks for all the replies. I made a copy of the shipping label. FedEx just picked up the package. I called about five minutes ago and all of a sudden there was the FedEx truck. Just going to cross my fingers that everything gets there ok. Have to laugh though, the FedEx person just looked at the package and said Directv? I said yes but it isn't going there. She said I know I just recognize the box. HMMMMMMMMM, doesn't sound to good if she recognizes the box!! LOL
GOOD BYE DIRECTV!!!!!!!!

I myself cannot wait to be rid of them in a few months. they are the absolute worst company going with at&t a close second. I also hope I don't have a problem when I call to cancel my service. I don't know how a company like this can stay in business.

Just be glad you're dealing with DirecTV and not Dish Network! They tried to scam us out of nearly $300. They thought I was just going to pay the bill and not question anything. Let me tell you...they got an earful, LOL.
I'll be interested to see how this all pans out. We have DirecTV right now and we're planning on switching to digital cable instead so that we can also lower our phone and internet bills.

I am so glad I switched to basic cable. With the new computer I can watch shows I can't receive on basic cable. I am not really saving money since I need to spend more for high speed internet. Was on dial-up before. I only went up about $10 for phone, internet, and tv. One thing that is really nice is that I can get on sites I was unable to get into before because of the browser, etc. Plus I can view the posts on this site so much easier.
