Default Home Remedy for Sore Throat?

Just wondering if anyone has any "tried and true" home remedies for sore throats. I've had a mild sore throat for the past 2 to 3 days off and on, and I'm getting really tired of it. The throat looks red and irritated, and I don't want it to work its way into strep or something. I've been faitfully taking vitamins for the past month or so to build my immune system, so this sore throat is getting on my nerves. Any help would be much appreciated!

If you have had it for several days, there is more going on than just a sore throat.

For temporary relief, I keep a pot of hot water available. Sip a cup of hot water with a dollop of honey and a squeeze of lemon. The honey helps coat your throat. The lemon acts as an expectorant, if you need one.

I decided to try madhen's home remedy, and so far so good. I've had 3/4 of a mug of hot water with honey and lemon juice, and it's already soothing my throat and making my nose run a little. I'll try to have another 2 mugs of this throughout the remainder of the day, and hopefully I'll be as good as new in the morning.

Glad to hear it is helping. I don't even like honey, but it sure seems to do the trick.

I learned this from someone years ago. His father had studied asian medicine. Steep a black tea bag in a cup of water until it is black. When cool enough drink the whole cup. It will be bitter. But within an hour your sore throat will be fine. I did not believe this person when they told me. But it worked right away!!

Thyme tea might also help: just pop a branch of thyme in a cup, add boiling water and drink as soon as it's cooled down a bit. If you don't have live thyme, dried thyme will also work and you can use a teaball.
