Cloth diapers
Anyone have any information on cloth diapering? What brand of cloth did you use? Did you use AOI's, fitted, diaper covers? There's alot of information on the net, but it gets confusing! Please help!!!!

I'm an old mom -- my "baby" is turning 20 in a couple weeks. . . .
I used old fashioned cloth diapers and folded them to suit my baby's size, sex, ect. I covered them with handmade woolen soakers , occasionally vinyl pants or bread wrappers.
My niece (who currently has a baby in diapers) likes AIO's -- much like disposables, easy to use, etc. . . but you have to purchase them in various sizes as the baby grows.

I like the old-fashioned ones too, as they grow with your baby.
I also wouldn't have survived without diaper liners - haven't seen them in the stores lately, but you can make your own by recycling used fabric softener sheets. You line the diaper every time, and throw/flush away the 'solid' waste and wash and re-use for just a wet diaper. NO DUNKING!!!
To launder, if you have a top-load washer, just dump the whole diaper pail into the washer, set for spin, THEN wash on hot.If you have a front-loader, you'll need a pair of Playtex gloves, but the procedure is the same.

I used AIO's. The ones I got were the "Little Lambs" style (not sure if they were authentic or a knockoff, I got them on eBay, but either way they worked great). They had tons of snaps on them so you could just snap them in a different spot as the baby gets bigger (not sure I'm explaining this right, but it's like different holes on belt, lets you make it different sizes). They had snap in liners and you could fold them over to make them thicker for the nighttime. I used a front-loading washer on sanitary, and did the "dry diaper pail" method of storage.

I used the old fashioned ones with ds, for awhile, with the liners and plastic pants. I also used the plastic pants while potting training, they worked great. I just didn't like the pins, but now they have a snappi, to hold them in place, or diaper cover.
I will have to check into little lambs, never heard of them before. I know what your talking about though, as I have seen a different kind of them on the net. I'm not sure what the "dry diaper pail" is? I'm assuming you don't rinse the diapers out, you just dispose of the solids, and wash later. Can you explain this to me?
Thanks for all the help, keep it coming.2010 Challanges:

I've cloth diapered my three kids (youngest is still in diapers). I've used a mixture of contour (like Kissaluv), prefolds (which ironically is the only type that I have used with all three kids - a pain to fold but cheap and easy to wash), AIOs (hated them - they take forever to dry and fell apart), & rad rags (I think these are my favorite, but I make them myself). You can use a variety of covers from the pull-up pant style to kinds with velcro that you put on like a regular diaper, and kinds of covers with liners and bells and whistles (ex: AIOs like the Bum Genius - $20+ each! Crazy!). I like the gdiaper cover (use with prefolds or rad rags), but most of the covers I own are proraps.
Here is a blog I wrote explaining my ultra-cheap diapering technique. http://quirkymomma.com/?p=463
My entire diaper stash for my youngest cost about 40$ - awesome!
If I had to do it over again, I'd get 12 prefolds, 12 rad rags, 6 gdiaper or prorap covers and 2 packs of White Cloud wipes.
Oh, and I LOVE, LOVE and can't sing the praises enough about using liners so you don't have to scrub poo. I found that the White Cloud diaper wipes are washable and if you layer a clean one over the crotch region, if your youngster wets, well, you just throw it into the wash. If its soiled, you lift the soiled part, throw it away and you don't have to scrub the diaper! Its wonderful. I wish I knew about them when I had my first!
This is the store where I get most of my diapering supplies. They have been really helpful answering my questions over the years: www.thanksmama.com
Hope you have fun with cloth... and don't go too overboard. Any specific questions please ask! I love cloth!

Thanks Rachel, I'm sure I have enough scraps to make the rad rags. I think I will try to make some tonight.
