Best deal/source for plastic storage bins?
Like everyone else this time of year, I'm trying to get organized. I'd like to set up a recycling center in my garage and put a number of things in our (occasionally damp, occasionally mousy) crawl space - not to mention just having a few bins for sorting and hauling during my purging project. I'd like to buy 20-25 bins.
I've been looking around and it seems the best price for plastic storage bins (60-72 gallon) is about $10 each.
What have you found price-wise and can you think of any good quality free solution for my storage needs?

You need to shop around and look for sales. Check WalMart, Big Lots, Target, Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. I have a bunch of Rubbermaid bins in various colors and I didn't pay over $5 for any one of them. I just bought 2-4 every time I found them on sale until I had enough.

you can also ask @ your local recycling center if they have anything you can "borrow" such as plastic recycling totes, or the metal stands with plastic bags to fill. (this works well if you visit often enough that they get to know you)

If you're not opposed to used bins, check out your local apartment complex dump areas. People in mine are constantly throwing them away in pretty good condition...only because they can't bother with them come moving day.

I got Ikea recycling bins for Christmas that works great. They're so useful. I also have white Ikea storage containers that fit my sugar and flour in them. They hold about 30lbs worth of flour and sugar a piece. They're made of heavy duty plastic and take some abuse.

I'm not sure price wise what store is best, but I would check Walmart, dollar store and Big Lots. These are the places I purchase them from.

They aren't that expensive here....but don't know your area. They are on sale here now due to school starting. They also go on good sales after first of year, closer to tax season, for the orgainizing.
Don't overlook Craig's List........I would put a 'wanted' ad on there....never know could find a few. I see them sometimes at our thrift shops but would bet that they don't last long.

I found some 18 gallon totes (which is what I really needed, I don't know why I thought I needed such big totes) at Lowes on Sunday, made from 99% recycled plastic. The were $3.50 each, on sale for $3.00 and I bought 15 with a 10% off coupon, I thought it was an OK deal, and it was worth it to me to have the bins in hand and to be able to get right to work yesterday. I'll be on the lookout for better deals though!
