We will be laying low. Not going any where we don't need to and not taking the kids unless we really have to. hand washing and just being generally cautious.
I put clorox wipes in my diaper bag and i have hand sanitizer in my purse.

We're always stocked with 'sick' supplies, and we wash hands before we eat, but when it starts creeping up in the area I'll be a bit more diligent about hand sanitizing leaving the stores or after pumping gas. So really, not much, we're pretty prepped for illness as usual.
As for flu shots, will probably skip them for me, but on the fence about the kids for the 'regular' shot. DS is in K now, there everyday, and DS is in preschool 2 days a week, so we may for them as a precaution.I have no intesrest in a specific 'swine flu' shot at all.
Before being home full time I worked as an xray tech in a city hospital and got my shot every year....never got the flu, but haven't in the 5 years since I stopped working, either.
The virus mutates frequently, so getting your flu shot does not guanrantee you won't get it, they have to tweek the vaccine every year, and the virus tweeks itself as well. BUT getting your shot reduces your chances of getting it and may help lessen the severity and duration if you do still get the flu. Everyone makes their own decisions about it....in fact, when i was pregnant and working, I refused it that year, even though it's strongly suggested for expecting Moms with normal immune systems, I didn't feel good about it (and didn't get the flu).
As for the statistics posted earlier, I wish it were possible to see those results vs. the results of 'normal' healthy adults who get the flu....I would imagine the very scary 'death' results would be similar in a reputable study (as in, how many 'healthy' adults who get the flu instead of the shot die from complications?). As for the 67% reaction figure....no doubt, flu shots tend to hurt like heck for a few days at the injection site for a day or two, in my experience, and that would be counted as a 'reaction'. So while that # may seem scary to some, yu have to consider what it may encompass.

I work in at a hospital/medical school so a flu shot is mandatory unless we explicitly sign a waiver. I always get it, did today. I work in the library, so exposure is pretty minimal - virtually everyone around me will have been immunized, and the library is lightly used anyway, not many people in and out. I'm also rarely in crowds and never around children, so I'm likely to avoid the flu. I haven't had it in years - if indeed what I had then was the flu at all.
This year they are attaching little flat green plastic padlock gadgets to the badges to indicate who has had it. It doesn't affect us much in the library, but can see where it will be useful in the hospital for those involved in direct patient care.
No other preparations here.Last edited by dcompton; 10-03-2011 at 11:26 AM.

We ended up not getting the vaccines. The naval hospital had set up a phone number so people could check the availability of the vaccines and I had been calling it every couple of days. We were set on getting them. Right about the time they became available to dependents, my husband got sick. It was horrible, the sickest I've ever seen him. Right about the time he recovered, my oldest got sick, then her younger sister, and then the baby right after that.
My middle kid was by far sicker than any of them. Her fever would not stay down and she was completely uncommunicative. She was too exhausted to talk or to eat. She's thin anyway, so having her get that sick and refusing to eat absolutely terrified me. I spent her entire illness next her to monitor her fever, and we were always *this* close to running her to the ER. Her recovery took a lot longer than anyone else's. From the time my husband got sick until the last kid got over it, I don't think I slept more than a couple hours at once.
I got a headache and a little bit of nausea. Small miracles. My husband was back to work by the time the kids got sick, and being on sea duty he was doing a lot of 24 hour duty and long hours besides.
I'm not sure what I would have done had I not been able to take care of the kids.
I really wish we had been able to get the vaccines.~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~

The doctor's office offered it to me the last time I was there and I said no thanks. I work from home and don't get out and around others very much. I have never had the flu and I hate needles. So I will take my chances.

No more vaccinations for me.
I have Guillian-Barre Syndrome (otherwise known as French Polio), which I got from my 2007 flu shot.
I walk with a cane or rollator; & have pain 24/7 which cannot be relieved.
Crippling worsening year by year, impacting every aspect of my life.
Hands now so crippled that I am losing my skills and employment.
Every year, the vaccines take their toll, affecting a portion of our population.

I'm totally against getting a flu shot and putting a live flu virus in your body. My family hasn't gotten them in a long time. We take vits and Oil of Oregano & olive leaf those things will kill any virus around.

this is an old thread.
i roll around in the germs and let my immune system work. soap and water and a flu shot.11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.
"i create prosperity, abundance, and savings for me and my household"
