    Default car talk

What make, model and year vehicle(s) do you own? Is a car a way to get from point a to point b or do you care the type of car you own. If your choice matters for a reason, what is that reason?

I own a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan (even though I said I would NEVER own a minivan . I LOVE IT. I'm not picky about what I drive as long as it has space to haul the kids and their stuff around. For example, we are always headed to the skate park and it's so easy to throw skateboards, bikes, and scooters in the van. When I bought it, I was pretty much crying because I didn't want it. The salesman told me that although it was hard for me to give up my fun little car, it would be harder to go from a van to a car (because you get used to all the space) and boy was he right.

So, to sum up, I'm not brand loyal and I will drive anything dependable that has plenty of room for the boys and their gear.

2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid - bought new
2007 Toyota Prius - bought new

We bought them because they were hybrids and we wanted to be green.

We'll probably never buy new again, unless we've got like, millions in liquid net worth, because it was such a waste of money. We'll never break even between gas savings and the cost of the new vehicle coming off the lot...

For the most part, a car is point a to b for me - but I *do* balk at riding anywhere in discomfort.

Maybe next time I'll buy a used Mercedes...course now that Cash for Clunkers has eaten up the used car market, those will be overpriced too for a while...

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I own a 1992 Chevy Stepside Extended cab pickup and hubby owns a 1993 Chevy stepside pickup. They are both paid for and have been for quite some time. I must say that I am loyal to GM.

My truck comes in handy with the extra seat when we have other people in the vehicle. When it rains there is a place to put stuff so it won't get wet. It is also great for taking THREE dogs to the dog park (100+ lbs, 52 lbs, & 56 lbs), vet, etc. I also buy inventory for my online business 6-8 pallets at a time. Two pallets fit in the bed of each truck quite nicely. Our trucks have come in handy when we moved and they really come in handy when we need to evacuate for hurricanes.

We are also doing a lot of household updates/repairs and we can go to Home Depot or Lowes, get what ever we need, toss it in the back of the truck, and bring it home. We were at Home Depot recently I saw a guy cramming some big piece of lumber in the back seat and out the window. Then he drove off without strapping it down - DANGEROUS!

My FIL also supplies ships. I help him out from time to time and big up LARGE orders in my truck. It saves him having to rent a van and he pays me well!

Since the price of gas went up we bought a Harley that hubby rides to work most days. His truck gets better gas mileage than mine so I use his a lot now. We are contemplating getting rid of mine. So even though we have two full size trucks with the addition of the Harley we are using MUCH less gasoline. We also go as many places on the Harley as possible.

I live in Houston Texas and everything requires freeway driving. I feel safer in a truck than a car. Also a truck is heavier duty than a car. My truck has over 200,000 miles and the front end has been aligned ONCE. You can't do that in a car in Houston (pot hole city). I have maintained my truck properly and it has performed well for me.

I would love to have a little red sports car, no real reason, I just think they're pretty. I have been picky about the color, all mine have been red. (it's my favorite color) Not that it helps with anything.

We drive a 2006 Dodge Charger and a 1997 Ford Explorer. Both were bought used. When we bought the Charger we had thought about trading in the explorer but in the end it was worth more to us than the trade in value they were willing to give. It is paid for and has been great for all the hauling stuff around we do. The Charger is more of our grown up car. Nice smooth ride. My dh really wanted a Challenger but he was willing to go with this one.

We trade cars every two weeks, so our gas consumption equals out. Dh drives about 25 miles to work one way and I just putt around town. The Charger gets better gas mileage. The Explorer was what I used to drive and dh drove a little Pontiac Sunbird that we sold to my db after we got the Charger. DH always has driven the junkers so now he wants a little nicer of a ride so we trade off and on.

We also have a 1979 Monte Carlo that dh has rebuilt. (a few times )It is his first car and he is not going to let it go. He bought it in 1982 and was used. This will be once it is finally done more of a week-end car for hubby. It will not be easy on the gas consumption.

Perhaps, but we don't go around acting like our farts don't stink. (Southpark Reference )

We didn't buy the hybrids to impress anyone, we just bought them cause we liked the concept.

Are we suffering from a language barrier issue here? Motorcycles are MUCH more dangerous than Guns you know.

SO how dangerous is a motorcycle packing Harley rider? Hubby has a concealed handgun permit and recently bought a vest and a jacket with gun pockets.

How does one "pack" a motorcycle?
