    Default Smokers?

I know that it's bad for me, healthwise and Frugally, but I really am not ready to quit yet, I will when I am ready and have discussed the situation with my Dr. and with a person at the quitline . Anyone else in the same situation?

I do get what you are saying. I felt the same way, however I did end up quiting for health reasons. The weird thing with me quitting, and now that I can actually taste food, I have found there are things that I as a smoker, that I really don't like the taste of now. Though for health reasons that is a good thing.

Until you make up your mind that you want to quit no one or anything will help..Most of it is you wanting to..I was that way for a long time..I enjoyed my smokeing..

I definately know how you feel. I used to smoke. I was finally able to quit and can not believe how much I missed with tasting and smells. It really is not easy to quit. Once you make up your mind you will be able to stop.

Brat is right..It took me 27yrs to finally quit.. The only reason why I quit was I woke up one morning (it just happened to be my 40th B'day..no I didn't plan it!) and COULD NOT breath..it was very scary and I thought either I quit now or I won't see my children grow up...I still worry sometimes if years down the road or maybe sooner I will endup with lung cancer or COPD/CHF from all those years of abusing my body from being a very heavy smoker all of those 27yrs.

Good luck...I do know how hard it is.

It is extremely hard. Even with the prices I cannot quit. I wish I could just wake up one day and say I'm a nonsmoker and never pick one up again. But then I see it, smell it, get really stressed and give in I'm right back at it. It's just like dieting: a battle of willpower.

I've never smoked, so shouldn't have any idea why people do it when it's so devastatingly bad for them. My current interest is my daughter, and her 3 children.

My experience with smoking, dear friend across the street, was told by his doctor if he didn't quit he had less than 6 months to live. This time the Doctor was on the money.

I unhappily accepted the job of being his paubearer. To this day, a finer man I've not met. Why did he do this to his family. He didn't owe me a thing so I can't complain.

It rings a bell with my daughter, do I keep hassling her about it, which makes her life miserable, or accept it. I'm sorry, I can't figure out the answer.

I know exactly how that feels. Been there and done that.

Thankfully, I was able to quit.

I know exactly how you feel. I enjoy smoking, sounds weird, I know. I want to quit and I have started taking Welbutrin. I have started having trouble breathing when I go up stairs or for longer walks or chasing after my baby. I want to be around for sons and I have a feeling smoking is going to get in the way of that. I have set Wednesday as my stop smoking day. Wish me luck.

Good luck militlady. I love smoking as well and I have quit a few times with no success. I am back on the bandwagon one more time so I hope I can stay on and not fall back to cigarettes.

I think we need a quit smoking support group as I have picked up smoking again a bit back and I'd like to quit again. Financially it's a killer, Health wise it's a killer. I really want to but I know I'll need the support of others to help me or at least a place to vent on bad days! I know it's the most stupid habit ever yet I can't quit. I can barely afford to do it anymore. SO EXPENSIVE! It's my only vice but I'd be happy to get rid of it.

militlady, You can do it! I quit 126 days ago. I lived on a quit smoking msg board, awsesome support and tons of information. I read something there about a woman that was a member there, who has since passed and they said she said, if you think quitting is hard try dying from the effects of smoking.

    That kept me focused.

You are right about the financial end of it. I just realized that if my dh and I both quit today and put the money we save into an account, at the end of 10 months we would have saved enough to pay cash for a new hot tub. Hmmmm. I think I will do that and make that my reward. What do you think?
