I have used them for myself, my parents and an elderly couple for the holidays. You go to the website and see what the monthly meal is going to be and if you want to order contact the host site and place your order and find out what day to pick up. Here our host site is no longer in our town it is about 20 min away. I dont know what happen it looked like they had a great group of people using it so who knows. I know several people in other towns that use it. Check out the site. My parents I got them the senior meals. My mom was not so impressed. She would rather cook for her and dad since he likes home cooked meals. The fruit and vege boxes I like but since I do once a month shopping for my major purchases I am o.k. with going to my store to get my veg and fruit when needed and I buy most of my vegs frozen during the winter. The holiday meals are great for donating to needy families and that is what I did because they would deliver for me because it was a church and the family I always donated to used the food bank at the same host site. Just check it out or try it once and see what you think.

I looked into it, and didn't find it worth the money. Maybe if you normally buy all the things they include in the boxes, it would be a bargain for you, but there are many things included in the boxes that we just don't buy.

Here is a post from another board by someone who found the same thing to be true for her household:

No. I've looked into it and I get better deals at my preferred stores:

    For example, this month:
2 lb. Fully Cooked Meatloaf- I don't buy, but a meatloaf that size would cost me $1.50 to make
1 lb. Beef Fajita Strips- costs me $0.99
3 lb. Breaded Frying Chicken - I buy 3# of chicken breast $5.99 that I coat with a special recipe our family likes.
2 lb. St. Louis Style Rib - don't buy premade - but I get beef ribs $1.49/# on sale
2 lb. Lasagna Dinner Entree - I never would buy this. We would probably not eat this. This is a waste.
    1 lb. Gourmet Sausage- $0.99
1 lb. Fully Cooked Meatballs- 1.99
    16 oz. Broccoli- $0.99
    15 oz. Refried Beans - $0.59
12 ct. Tortillas - we only eat corn - and we usually opt for taco shells $0.79/doz
    26 oz. Pasta Sauce - $0.99
    16 oz. Pasta - I pay $0.65
    6 oz. Pancake Mix - don't buy - I make from scratch
    16 oz. Fresh Carrots - $0.99
    3 lb. Golden Yukon Potatoes - $2.29
4 oz. Chicken Noodle Soup (Makes 64 oz.)- don't buy. I make from scratch.
    4 lb. California Oranges - I buy for $0.39/# - $1.56
Dessert Item - I can make dessert for next to nothing.

We can buy everything on this month's list (at least, what we would eat) for $23.29. There is no bargain here for us. And we're missing a lot of things that we WOULD eat with those things - there's no cabbage, no ground turkey, no mushrooms, no leaf lettuce, no milk, etc.

I have not tried it myself. I say give a try on month just to see what you think.

The hill billy housewife has a menu every month for Angel foods so nothing goes to waste.

I have also looked at their menus and am not impressed with the value or variety. Doesn't look like a whole lot for $30 and too many convenience foods. I'll stick to my coupons & stockpiling.

I have used them and find they are a good deal and I am a bargain shopper. If you really shopped and bought discount you could probably do better but spend a lot of time doing it. But I also consider it a donation as part of the money goes to help people who cannot pay. I have found we don't eat some of the items and I donated those to a food pantry at church. You also need to be flexible on the menu. If you have a large family you can easily use the whole amount.

We live in a high grocery area. Sam's is about 1.5 to 2 hrs away. AF is worth it to us.

Most months we eat everything. Sometime I have to get a little creative. We like the flour tortillas so when we get corn I make chips and have fajita salad instead of fajitas. One month I got 5 bags of onions. We love onions but I knew we wouldn't eat them all before they went bad. So, I diced 2 bags worth and put them in the freezer for sauces and etc. The others were left to fill in as needed.

What we don't use I give to my MIL.

The only problem I have found is that some meals will feed all 5 of us with leftover and some won't feed all of us for one meal. The grilling box is the fill in on those months.

Recently they changed the rules and you do not have to buy the signature ( main box) in order to get a specialty box anymore.

If you want just a veggie box you can buy just that.

If you want just a meat box you can buy just that.

If you want just the allergen free box you can buy just that.

The flexibility of the box choices is nice.

We used them a couple years ago, but stopped using them because they raised their prices and we could find the food cheaper at the grocery store.

If you think it is resonable, go ahead and try them to see if you like it.

We have purchased Angel Food over the past year and we've been really pleased with eveything. I have found that if you order the fruit and veggie box, you will need to eat the items fairly quickly. The fruits and veggie have been very tasty, but some of the items have gone bad in a matter of a few days. It's not a big deal since I know that before I buy the box. When I do get the fruits and veggies, I just make sure that it doesn't sit around the house for days on end. HTH!

Hi Everyone....well neither my Hubby or I were very impressed with the Sr. frozen dinners!!!!! In fact they were awful. The meat??? in them tasted like chewing a rubber band. Oh well, live and learn.
Thanks again for all your help...Liz
