    My concern with adding food colouring to oil - oil and water don't mix. I know food colouring isn't exactly water - but still a water like texture. Do you put it in before you heat the oil or once the oil's heated? Would hate to see someone get hurt by adding food colouring to hot oil before tossing in the popcorn.

    i gave up on the 'coloring' idea...the popcorn is popped....it's white....and they all can just 'deal with it'... so there.....

    i don't think the wildlife is going to mind.....

    I'm sure the wildlife will prefer the dye-free version.

    Try your string ahead of time. Popcorn breaks really easily when you are stringing it, regular string might be too thick. A coated thread, like handquilting thread, may slide through easier.
