Can You Freeze Sugar Cookies?
I made two batches of cut-out sugar cookies yesterday with my girls, which came out to a lot of cookies.
I just wanted to know if you can freeze sugar cookies, if there are any special ways to freezing them and if they taste as good once defrosted.
Thanks in advance for your help!An obstacle is what comes up when you lose sight of your goal.

I just freeze them in freezer bags. They taste just the same once defrosted. The only holidays goodies I've had issues freezing is peanut butter fudge.

Yes. When I freeze homemade cookies I put them in plastic freezer containers rather than freezer bags...keeps them from getting crushed by other things.

Rather than freeze them (which works just fine) why don't you send them to me? No sense cluttering up your freezer! Just sayin'...

I freeze mine all the time in a Tupperware container. Never had a problem or bad tasting cookies.

I just put them in zip bags and lay them flat in a stack in the freezer. Have kept cookies over a year this way. They will lose that fresh baked crispness, but they stay firm and taste just fine.

Don't frost the cookies before you freeze them. Frost them AFTER they thaw. The frosting or decorations will flake off and crack during freezing. Frosting, sprinkles and sugar also alter during thawing, and food coloring can run during thawing.

~I freeze mine in containers as well.
I like to eat them up within a month. Any longer than that and I think they start tasting stale.
We just pull out how many we want and let them defrost at room temperature for a half hour before eating. Just like fresh!~~Constance

Just wondering to those that freeze their cookies in a tupperware container - do you do anything to 'prep' them in there? Wax paper between layers? Flash freeze for 1 hour on a cookie sheet before putting into the container? Do you put a layer of plastic wrap over top before snapping the lid on?
My plastic containers - not sure how air tight they are so I either need to go buy a new large one to hold enough cookies (pre Christmas baking) OR buy freezer bags to put in the cheapie containers I have now. Don't want to give 'crumbs' for gifts later on lol2012: The Year Of The Purge!

My wife doesn't put anything between them when unfrosted. Thaws them out, frosts them, let dry, back in the freezer with wax paper between layers. WARNING: this is with her home-made frosting recipe...it freezes well and ships to CO and TX well. Best cookies in NYS and possibly the US...not sure about Canada and the rest of the world...
