    Default cat urine

How can I get car urine out of fabrics- my cat has decided to mess on everything lately as we moved to a new house. Now he has messed on the couch- urinating on the cushions and has gone between the cushions to the bottom of the couch. I have tried to use lemon dishwashing liquid to get rid of the smell as well as Freebreeze and baking soda- I can still smell it a bit. The cat will smell it too and come back to do it again. I need to know what to use to completely get rid of any traces.
    Thank you

Get rid of the cat? Just kidding.

Cat urine is the most vile smell ever!!!!!!

Since you moved to a new house, maybe the last people had cats and your cat can smell it?

Your cat might be getting used to the changes too. This happened to me one time when I moved.

I would suggest (and I know it's a big inconvience) to get a few new litter boxes and place them close to the area your cat likes to go at. It should help and then later change it.

As far as the cat smell I still deal with this! Check your vet or pet stores for products that might help.

Fabrese makes a pet fabrese now. I also have an air cleaner by Honeywell that has a lifetime filter. As far as for the cat not to smell it-impossible.
Is he fixed?? If not he is marking his new territory. Esp. if they had a cat. It will continue until hes fixed. sorry.

Fixed cats will still do this. Also maybe a vet checkup?

I've used Nature's Miracle & I think it works wonderfully.

I've also used plain white vinegar - it's worked for me in areas such as the fireplace, the bathroom, etc, but I've never had to try it on a sofa - I sprayed so much vinegar in & around the fireplace that the cat no longer wanted to go near it - It reeked of vinegar

Nature's Miracle is sold at petsmart, as well as other places, that's just where I get it. - http://www.naturemakesitwork.com/home/index.php

I've used it for both dog & cat issues - love this stuff!!

You can also use a product called "Totally Toddler". It is made by a company that makes a pet product (don't remember if it is Natures Miracle or not). It is the same enzyme type product but with a different scent (more pleasing and less institutional IMO) and about 1/2 the price. You will find it by the cloth diapers/diaper pail items in the baby section.

1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water. The best way is to use an upholstery shampooer, put the vinegar water in your tank, use the shampoo you would normally use and clean according to your carpet shampooer's instructions.

My daughter used the above to completely clean a carpet in a trailer she bought...the former owners had cats that peed/sprayed everywhere...it worked.

get your cat to a vet. diabetes, urinary tract infection, could be a lot of things.

i would suggest that the sofa is ruined.
    11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
    credit card debt 7500
    mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
    then live on the rest!

i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

My hubby is a professional carpet and upholstery cleaner and I just asked him if he could get that cat pee out of a couch and cushions and he said probally not... If the cushions are foam, you will have a really, really hard time with this... the cat urine crystilzes and actually will have to be disolved to "go away" and it take a lot of water and rinceing to do that... this may or may not even make it all the way through the foam of the cushions and can actually ruin them, not to mention that it would have a super hard time drying.

I would suggest getting new cushions and cleaning the rest of the couch. You can use an enzyme "pet urine remover" that they usually sell with rug doctor rental items. It is a liquid that you mix with water, mix it stronger than the directions on the bottle. The enzyme will work as long as the product is wet and "sort of eats the urine". The key is to not leave the couch wet for to long or it can "brown out" or get a darker color change because it was wet to long. This happens mostly on lighter colors but can happen with all. Once you think you have gotten it all out, use fans to help dry the couch as quickly as possible.

    Good luck.

I just cleaned a couch for one of my customers. They went on vacation and while they were gone, the upset cat pottied on their sofa several times. They were ready to throw the sofa out.

I took the fabric off of the sofa cushions and washed it a couple of times. Once in vinegar, after letting them soak for about an hour, and again in febreeze.

I took the cushions, which were foam, outside and took the garden hose to them by standing them up on their edge and letting the water run through that white stuff they use to cover the foam. I could watch the yellow urine come out of the cushions, it was disgusting. Then I let let the cushions dry which didn't take long because they weren't saturated like I thought they would have been.

The next step was the foam Carpet Freshner spray from the Dollar Tree. This stuff is great !! I sprayed each cushion heavily and again let the cushions dry.

They couldn't believe that I was able to completely get the smell out of the sofa.

To keep cats and dogs off of furniture, I buy the Pet Spray they sell at Kmart. Its about $5, but pets wont go near anything sprayed with it.

Nature's Miracle is the ONLY thing that has "completely" removed cat urine in my home. You can get it at Pet stores or my local "Fleet Farm" has it.

I have 5 cats and have treated many stains. It sometimes takes many applications. You have to "soak" the area and let it dry completely and then soak again, etc...

It does make a huge difference once you have the cats fixed, it still stinks and will not go away, but it is no where near a vial of a smell.
