You never know what kind of germs are on it because we all know most people will hold onto the roll to tear off what they need.

I don't take the extra roll because that's tacky. I will, however, take all of the items that are realistically used in the time that I am there. This includes the coffee, shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc.
I take off the used roll and open the new one for 'my' turn in the room LOL. The used one that was already on there is the emergency back up should we run out - depends on how long our stay is. I take the toiletries and coffee stuff in case we need it at the next place which may not provide.

I'm sending this thread to my GROWN son. When he visits me (and he does frequently and lives nearby), he TAKES my toliet paper (because he's too cheap and lazy to buy his own, I guess, or has that forever sense of entitlement that I must have conveyed to him somehow). I have lectured him when I caught him sneaking out of the house with a roll under his arm that it's stealing (and he's a police officer, no less! LOL!) but he just giggles. So, for Christmas, we REALLY DID get him a GIANT supply of toliet paper and wrapped it. He laughed when he opened it.

For the record, though, I really do think taking hotel TP is very bad manners. I never do that. I do, however, ALWAYS take the open roll off the roller and just sit it on the counter and put a freshly wrapped one on there to avoid the "what germs are on that" feeling.

It has never crossed my mind to take the tp. Unless its the one you've been using and you might need it for an emergency on the rest of your trip! lol I keep a spare roll of tp in my truck though anyway, just in case.

I do take the shampoos etc. They are perfect for when we're camping or something.

Wow! I would never think to take the TP from a hotel. I am very brand loyal and usually take a roll or two of our own. Oh, and those moist wipes

I did have a cold one time as we were leaving and asked if I could take the tissue box. The staff was so nice, she gave me an unopened one for the road. Amazing how such a simple gesture makes a difference sometimes.

So do I......and like another poster said - the rates go up because of things like this.

I leave it. Though, I can count on my 2 hands how many times I've stayed in a hotel/motel. lol.
