    Default things you won't replace...

We probably all have owned items that once the item breaks, you have no plans to replace it anytime soon and not just because of the cost to replace it.

For example, we have cordless phones and they aren't the greatest. When these finally bite the dust, I doubt we'll replace them. We've replaced them for years and there's always some sort of issue to the point that I'm tired of it and will probably just use our cells.

What things have you opted to not replace?

    *The microwave*
It died two years ago and I don't miss it at all.

    *The toaster*
Haven't had one in 10 years. Barely used the one we had.

    *Electric can opener*
I have an aversion to appliances on the counter top. I hate the look of it all. So when the electric can opener died, I bought a hand held one that fits nicely in a drawer - out of sight.

Do you not eat toast or do you use the oven to toast when you want some?

I don't like appliances on the counter either. But my counters are stuffed with them and an additional cabinet with some in it too. ugh
I've got to figure out something new. It's been bugging me.

I toast it in the oven on broil. A minute or so on each side and it's good to go.

I cook Eggos, Toaster Strudel and bagels the same way.

I have a huge aversion to electric can openers, huge waste of space! I understand the ppl that need them, but I dislike clutter so much its hard for me to under stand why healthy ppl have them. I dont find it hard to use one and ive had the same one forever, I think I paid $2 at DG.

Electric can opened, electric chopper, electric clock radio/alarm ( I am going to replace it with a wind up alarm clock = no electricity), apple peeler (a gift and a waste of cupboard space), waffle iron (same reason as the apple peeler). I am sure there are many more that I can't think of right now.

There are some things I would want to replace with very different "models." For instance, about 15 years ago DH bought me a very nice sewing machine for which there are no longer motherboards being made. If it goes, I hope to replace it, but it would be with a less expensive model. The same with our cooktop -- it's a glass top, which I like being able to wipe, but it was not worth the money and easily scratched, difficult to clean, etc.

Our medium-sized SUV is 13 years old and we don't expect to ever have such a large vehicle again because of the cost of vehicles and the price of gas.

I have to say I love the electric kitchen gadgets because of carpal tunnel and tendonitis.

You defiantly need them then. I can see how a hand held would suck!

my animals. I love them but they are so expensive and a lot of work. We are getting older and the kids will leave in the next 5 years. As they go it's o.k. Odd answer huh?

Waffle iron---seldom use it now so won't miss it when it is gone.

Teeny tiny electric skillet........bought about three years ago and don't have a clue why.........big enough to do about one egg!! It will NEVER die because I SELDOM use it.

Electric knife ---seldom use it and have other good quality knives that do the job.

Large food processor.........storage is the pits, it is the pits to clean when used, and I always use my small one.

Electric mattress pad.........hate it. I will go with an elec. blanket when it dies. First one I had and won't have another!

    Waffle iron
DVD player (PS3 does that too)
    stereo (computer does it better)
Just canceled cable (computer does that better too )
Digital Camera (use my phone which I usually have with me)
Toaster (we really don't eat toast)
Cordless Phone ( why do we have a land line?)
Our second full sized freezer ( honestly, there's really only two of us)
Stupid useless Swiffer mop... enough said.
Desktop computer (going wireless with laptops, why be chained to a desk and take turns)
Giant office desk (I always end up doing the bills at the kitchen table, also see above)
