Wedding Favours
Just wondered how many of you keep the lil keepsake/wedding favours given out at weddings?
If you do keep them, how do you decide on if/how to keep it? Is it kept b/c its something unique? Something practical? The container that edible treats came in?2012: The Year Of The Purge!

Thanks Polly - I'll have to browse tomorrow but I was trying to get an idea of how many people actually keep the favours...we're considering not even having any.

I know favours are supposed to be a big thing, but not one single wedding I have ever been to has given them out (which is great as far as I am concerned, as I think they are a silly little thing (aka "stuff") that just costs unecessary money).

Well, I never keep them but my husband does. He's such a romantic! He keeps the invitation and the favor. He has a collection on his dresser. He gets all mushy and romantic when he looks at them. Kind of struck me funny at first this big bear of a man would have such a romantic streak.
I think the bottom line really is most people will throw it away unless it's something useful. That is unless they're like my husband. *giggles*~~~

I don't know if this counts as a 'favor' but both myself, my mother and mother in law still have small fake silver horse shoes in my/their purses from our wedding 33 years ago.

candy is the best favor. all else gets left at the reception of thrown into the trash. i refuse to let clutter into the house.
i would suggest that you skip favors. no one wants 'em, no one expects 'em. no one will notice that you don't have them.11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.
"i create prosperity, abundance, and savings for me and my household"

We grew potted herbs as favors for our wedding and left them on a separate table (not at each place)so you could take them only if you wanted them. They were all gone by the end of the wedding, and that summer we saw them on the windowsill of many kitchens!
I thought they were a bit of a waste, but DH really wanted them. At least they were disposable! I don't like something like a spoon wrapped with candy. What are you supposed to do with one odd spoon?

I try not to take one in the first place because I know I will end up tossing it.
I have kept candles and seeds though.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

At my ds wedding they are having a candy bar and people with be able to fill a bag with what they like. If they don't want any that's fine too. All the candy that is left over, if there is any, will not go to waste. And it is a really neat decoration at the reception. It may not be for everyone, but that is the great thing about having choices.
Now for other non ediible trinkets I would pass. My neice had the cutest little wedding cake candles at her reception, I kept it for a year or so then tossed it.Married 22 years to Mark

A long time ago, when we were married as my dd9 says "Back in the 19's" we had candy. A wrapped chocolate truffle in purple tulle and a ribbon.
I have kept a small picture frame that functioned as the table assignment as well as the favor. It is still on my mantle with a wallet sized picture of a family member. I remember inside the frame it was calligraphied "Mr and Mrs X table #x". Quite cheaply done from the dollar store and you only need half as much as the guests. Since most people come as a couple/family.

We had homemade truffles which I made with my dh's oldest sister, his youngest sister did the same (older sister is an expert truffle maker, sells them at market).
I throw out any favours that aren't edible. The last few weddings we went to there was a sign up saying that the couple had made a donation to charity in lieu of favours.

My daughter and her husband chose to forego wedding favours and announced that they would use the money for a contribution to a homeless shelter instead. The wedding guests were very pleased with that alternative, and many commented that they preferred not having the money wasted on useless trinkets.

At my wedding I finally decided to do wedding favors after much harrassment by the in laws. I bought chocolate molds and sucker sticks and had the MIL make them. Guess what they forgot to put them on the tables, even after so much insistence on them.
I say just forgo the favors no one will even notice. It is truly a waste of money IMO. Maybe just have little dishes of nuts placed on the tables and some hershey kisses scattered about and that should be plenty.
