Default Did you have an unexpected expense this week?

    I had one. . .unexpected, and unwanted. . .
I heard some water running in the basement last night. It was the water heater running rusty water down the floor drain. My plumber friend called a company and got me a new 40-gallon gas water heater for $380, which he will install for me tonight. One step forward, two back. . .

I probably shouldn't complain; the old water heater was 34 years old!
(I guess this was really an EXPECTED expense- but certainly not WANTED!)

We had that happen a couple of months ago ~ ours in the garage and it was spouting water which I couldn't turn off because the faucet handle was broken...it's always something, isn't it?

Had to buy 2 new tires this week because last week we had a blow out and had to buy 1 last week. Used spare (which is new) as new tire #4 and one of the old ones as a spare. 265.00 this week and 186.00 last week.

With two teenagers, we always have unexpected expenses.

This week we had baseball pictures, filing fee for DD to run for Student Government President and new "guts" for the toilet. The bright side is, all of it was less than $100.

At least you heard it! The same thing happened to a lady in our city--she used 90,000 gallons of water before realizing something was up. Frustrating, thought, to have something like that happen.

We received an unexpected doctor bill for $130.00. Unexpected as in, the billing office billed our insurance wrong, AGAIN. Had to call and take care of that as we owe absolutely nothing.

Other than that, we have had some fairly smooth sailing this week.

Think of it this way. Your new water heater will be tons cheaper to run. This may gave you money in the long run. And it cost us WAY more to get 1 and install it 20 years ago at our old house.

Our unexpected expense-My DH added an extra week to his business trip. I will take the mower in the shop for it's "spring check up" instead of having DH do it. Around $50. but DH isn't here eating and using electricity working from home either. So maybe = ??.

Good point, Frugalwarrior. I never thought about a new water heater being cheaper to run! You made me laugh: Does DH eat THAT much food and use THAT much electricity???

Of course, I spoke to soon. I had a root canal done lately. At thetime, they thought I would only have to pay 162$ so that's what I paid. I actually owed 406$.

    Too many!

This was all in one week! Used the propane heater instead of getting the propane tank for furnace filled, when we moved the heater we had a huge hole in the carpet. New carpet $730.

Puppy we got the kids went to the vet 3 times finally ended up having to have him put to sleep, total over $300

Washer quit, oven on stove quit (burner quit a month before) and the spare fridge in the garage quit without me knowing and it had over 100 pounds of meat in it I had to throw out!

    New washer $786
    new stove $550

Plus now the brake light is on in my car, so dh will have to look at that on his next day off

Had to rush the puppy (18 weeks old) to the vet a couple of weeks ago. Turned out he had Giardia which is contracted from contaminated water.

Turns out this week we find out that the water in our neighborhood was contaminated with ecoli and coliform bacteria. They KNEW about it since April 6th (around the time the puppy got sick) but didn't bother to notify anyone till April 13th!
