Default Does anyone make (or has made) their own crackers?

There's only 1 cracker recipe I found in the cookbook. If you did and you don't now, could you tell me why please?

DH LOVES cheese & crackers. Crackers are expensive as you know, especially the whole-grain, etc. types he likes...so we're contemplating making our own.

Has anyone done this? Does it currently? Could you share a recipe?

    TIA --

    Judi

I have made them a few times, they don't keep anywhere near as good as bought ones. The dough is really stiff and hard to roll out thin and if you don't roll it out thin they don't get crisp.

I decided it was worth it to buy them. I will find the recipe and post it on here for you though.

    Good luck!

~I've made the wheat thins recipe from TG and they were good. I also made Animal Crackers from the recipe in this thread: crackers? . The dough was great but we didn't like the finished crackers. I've also made Matzoh crackers for Passover. They were very yummy!
I still have the cheddar crackers recipe saved from the first thread I posted. I'm going to try them one of these days!~

I have before and they turned out good. I don't lately because we are trying not to eat so many carbs. I might have try a whole wheat recipe and calculate serving size it is fun to do.

Well I just looked for the my recipe for cheddar sesame seed crackers and cannot find it.

I haven't made them in a while. They turn out really light and crisp. Really do not need to put anything on them. I will make a batch and make a cylinder with half the batch and freeze it. Then cut and bake just like icebox cookies.

I used to watch Martha Stewart a lot and she would talk about freshly made crackers which got me to thinking I should try to make them. They are really easy to make. I do not make them that often since I will just eat them all in one sitting. One thing great is that you know what is going into them.

I have made cheddar crisps, which we love, but it is a lot of work, like baking a huge batch of cookies, and not all that economical given the price of cheese and butter. And I can easily eat half a batch by myself. Cheddar Pecan Crisps Recipe at Epicurious.com

I learned to make lavash crackers in a cooking class, those are just flour and water. Lavash Recipe : Alton Brown : Food Network They were ok, nothing too exciting.

I don't bake them often because we don't eat a lot of bread products.
