    Default Help with meat!

I was wondering how much you guys spend on meat a month? I was thinking I could take x amt a week and buy meat in bulk and the end of every month.

We spend $20/week on meat for 3 of us. I generally have money left over from the $20 . . . but that's the amount I budget. Some weeks I spend it all, most weeks I have a few dollars left.

I'm trying to get our entire food budget to $200/month or less (for 2 people). I only buy meat on sale and have no set amount I spend per month, as we happily eat vegetarian or nearly so many days.

You need 10-15% of your diet as proteins. I'd figure out my budget, take 15% of that and use that to start? If you use soy, have meatless grain/bean meals you use, count those as a part of that percentage too.

I usually only buy meat that is $1.99/lb or less. If it's boneless meat we usually eat 1/4lb each. We often have meatless meals or casseroles (where you can stretch your meat farther) & you can save more that way.
I'd start with making up some menus and with that info and knowing how many people you are feeding you can come up with a ballpark figure.
    Good luck!

I don't have a set amount we spend on meat, just a set amount for the grocery budget in all. I won't pay more than $1.99lb for "fresh" chicken breast, but I'll spend as much as $3.49lb for ground sirloin. We eat vegetarian probably half the week if not more, though. I attribute that to cutting our weekly grocery bill to $30-$37 for 2 people. There's just no way I could have done that if we were to eat meat with every dinner.

i am not really sure- one month may be more than th enext if i get a good deal to fill the freezer with .

acme has these deals where you pick out 4packs of meat for 19.99 - i dont buy them because they are not enough for my size family -and could do better than that watching for sales and freezing and buying when theres $ off coupons on the meat because they need to sell it - my one store does that and the meat is always good still.

but its not a bad deal if one doesnt have the other things or alot of time on their side.
whenever i am in there even if not for meat i look for those yellow $ off sticker coupons and will check to see if i feel its a deal.

Not really sure either but it's all on sale or clearanced
    Chicken breat-$1.99 or less
chicken legs-.99 or less usually less
cut up whole chicken-.91# last week
    steak-$2.50# on 2/1
    roast only 2/1 or clearance
really don't eat pork anymore but brats 2.49 for or less

The key is to grab when on clearance keep coupons of meat even if it's usually too expensive then use it on clearance for near free meat. Yes lunchables are costly but at .99 markdown because there going to expire-$1. off coupon makes then free. Take the meat out and freeze it eat the cheese and crackers??
Freezing about to expire meats is what we do. Repackage in smaller packages?? Cut roast in slices and grill. Just change the norm to suit yourself.kwim??

I don't think we spend more than $30 a month on meat from the store. Every other year, we have a steer or cow butchered and we raise 50 chickens to can and freeze.

We budget €4 / week for animal protein which includes meat, fish, and eggs. So that's €16 / month or about $20/month. We usually eat vegetarian, because it's cheaper. That's for a family of two adults.

We can't really budget it monthly b/c we buy in bulk when on sale and some months are meatier then others - ie summer = grilling season or more entertaining done etc. We're always pulling from the stockpile in the freezer then buying fresh when on sale so its a mish mash.

I dont normally spend over $2.00 a lb..but will if its a meat I want and can't get it any cheaper..I can't give you and exact amount but I will say I spend alot at one time if I can get a really to good to pass up kinda of deal..like here's and example I was at Samsclub on Sunday and decided to look at their meat cases which are scattered in different area's of the store ..anyway they had 5 lbs of hot or mild sausage marked down $4.00 a package original price was $12.58 now that's a steal..so I bought 30lbs of it along with Stew beef that was marked down to $2.19 a pound the best deal I've seen in awhile and I needed it.. So I spent roughly $50.00 on meat..I also want to add that I own a foodsaver and that will preserve my meat for up to 5 years..I find that I'm more focused on filling my upright freezer with lots of foodsavered meat for the Winter as well as not knowing what my future holds for me as in regards to me or my dh's jobs being eliminated...You just never know!

I promise that I'm not trying to be smart here. Why on earth would you freeze the "meat" out of a Lunchable? I'm genuinely curious. I just can't imagine what use there would be for that little stack of bologna/ham/whatever.

That's what I try to do, too. I have a couple of pretty good meat markets in my area. That way, I know the meat is fresh. Some of it even comes from local cattlemen.

I spend about $50 for meat at one time and it usually lasts me 1-1/2 months. Sometimes longer like in this heat when we don't want something too heavy.

I won't pay over $2.00/lb meat either...Lately I've been running across several good deals that were .99/lb.
