canning homemade baked beans
I am making homemade boston baked beans tonight for dinner and was wondering if I could "boil bath" can the leftovers.. There's no way we'll eat the entire batch tonight.. I don't have a pressure cooker so boiling is my only option.
Here is the recipe: http://www.spam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! Nope, boil bath canning is not safe for beans. http://www.freshpreserving.com/pages...d_foods/35.php

Thank you for that link.
I'm not so good at freezing things.. They always seem to get freezer burn or not taste the same...
Any links for that? lol Maybe I'm doing something wrong?Me 34 DH 37 DS 6

I just put them in containers or freezer storage bags and toss them in the deep freeze. Beans are a lot more resistant to freezer burn than meat, but in both cases it's best to have good sturdy "freezer" tubs or bags and not the thin sandwich kind.

Please don't bash me but I've always water bathed my beans and bean soup with no ill effects. If there's meat in them I can for three hours.I've even made bean and bacon soup and it was really good

Pop goes the weasel- REALLY?! That is awesome news for me!
so I can reheat the beans and put them in sterile jars and just boil the jars(with beans in them) for 3 hours?
That is AWESOME! I am sooooooooo happy!
What is the longest you've kept them on your shelf?Me 34 DH 37 DS 6
