Question Help!! I'm having a brain drain...

I am making fried crab cakes for the first time for dinner tomorrow and have tried, but can't for the life of me think of a inexpensive side dish, let alone any side dish..

Does anyone know of a good inexpensive side dish that goes with fried crab cakes, please???

I seem to think a creamy coleslaw would go well or a green salad. Possibly oven fries, baked sweet tater fries or a rice?

A nice rice pilaf or Lemon dill rice mix and a fresh garden salad would make a rather elegant meal and keep things simple and frugal.

I don't have a recipe for rice pilaf in my files, but that sounds like one to look for...
I -DO- have one for the lemon dill rice mix if you want...

    Lemon Dill Rice Mix

    4 cups long grain rice
4 teaspoons dried grated lemon peel
    4 teaspoons dried dill weed
    2 teaspoons dried parsley
    2 teaspoons dried chives
    8 teaspoons instant chicken bullion
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon pepper

Combine all ingredients and seal in zip top bag or jar.

    To prepare:

    1 1/2 c. Mix
    2 c. Water
    1 T. Butter

Bring to boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer 20 min.

For the next time you try them, beer sauteed onions and mushrooms might be tasty. Chop up some onions and mushrooms, use tiny bit of butter or olive oil and then saute everything - feel free to add a little garlic. Right about when everything is about done, add some beer or white wine.
