    Default Freeze powdered cake mix?

I got a bunch of Duncan Hines cake mixes for .33 each today. I don't intend on baked 4 cakes anytime in the near future. We've never had a pantry moth problem, but I've done the "mold" thing and in doing so, we had cockroaches in that particular condo because of the moisture. It didn't matter how clean the kitchen/bathroom was, those little monsters were there. SO, that being said, I'm slightly neurotic these days. I'd love to believe that all the food I buy (namely rice, flour, etc.) is free of bugs when I bring it home...but I know that's not the truth. So, I've got my flour and sugar in airtight containers, and I've got my rice in a zip loc bag in the freezer. Can I do that with cake mix? Or will it cause the cakes to not raise properly when I bake them? TIA

Freezing should not affect them. What you have to watch for is the baking powder/baking soda going flat with time. Try to use up the mixes by the date indicated on the boxes.

I've done that with boxed cake mixes as well and had no problem that I noticed but others might have a difference of opinion/experience.

What I did, I removed the pouch of cake mix and placed them in a lg freezer ziploc bag and removed as much air from around the pouches as I could. I kept the box with instructions tucked away in a drawer for use as needed.

LOL oh Libby, I'm so glad I asked this question now. I would have thrown the boxes out. I can see myself doing it. Thanks for the reminder to keep the instructions! LOL

If you have the room........freeze them.

A friend does that all the time with hers.........she has tons of room in her freezer. Never has a problem with them.

When I am going to toss a box and it has instructions on it that I will need, I cut them out and put them on the item with freezer tape.

BTW ---Great buy on the cake mixes!!
