    Default Acting Lessons

DS2 has just informed me he wants acting lessons!

    So where do I start?

Does your Parks and Rec department put on any Adult Education classes or anything like that? I know ours has a whole brochure of classes. It's not a ton--like 1 class a week for 6 weeks for $35-40.

    This.

Or, check with your local community college. Classes can be taken credit/no credit and there's probably an evening class. I took beginning acting years ago there. Luckily for a letter grade so it applies towards my degree.

end of the world is evidently approaching.”

I am afraid I do not know how old your son is, and if he is an adult, the above are great suggestions. Also, your community might have a community theater. In my village, for example, there is a theater group at the library that puts on a mystery play once or twice a year. It's terrific fun.

If he is in high school or middle school, see if there is a drama class or a drama club. Those are excellent ways to get into all of this. The son of friends of mine started exactly like this and is in college taking more drama and musical theater right now.

When I was in primary and middle school, we were involved in a youth group that put on plays a couple times a year. Not all youth groups are interested in that, but you might be able to find something.

Try googling the name of your community and youth theater or drama club, to see if there is something like that available in your area.

Acting in plays is a great way for young people to gain confidence in speaking in front of groups, pllus responsibility for learning your lines, coming on time and prepared to rehearsals, and contributing in a creative way.

(I realize these are not lessons, per se, but participating in drama groups gives you a great deal of experience and hands-on training in acting.)
