    Default Man Cave

If you were to design a man cave, what would be the most important feature?

What makes a man cave a sanctuary?

In short, what makes the perfect man cave?

What's your definition of a man cave? Is this a work shop?
Or is a room to hang out in??

My older two boys sleep in what we call the man cave (it's the basement). They seem to need lots of space for camping equipment, electronics and my never coming in to tell them to clean.

Depends on the man. My husband would not be impressed by a giant TV that most men crave. He wants more of a room for his hunting mounts and outdoor atmosphere. Just like every woman's definition of what her sanctuary would be is different.

For my DH it's electronics. There can't be too many. He has several computers,tv,a stereo, not to mention storage tubs of bits and parts of machines. He has a wide leather chair and a space heater. I do not look in the cupboards, paw thru papers or turn on anything when he's gone. All his mail gets set on the chair as long as it's not bills. It is his private sanctuary/office.

A room to enjoy sports or action films. Maybe have a beer and nachos. He already has a garage workshop.

Oh, I have the wrong kind of DH then. He is a uuber computer nerd. Doesn't like sports at all. And i don't allow alcohol in the house because of the kids.
I guess you want a private den?

    Hey Polly,
Is this like that show where you throw out all his clutter and you "gift" him a man cave?? (Who wants a clean house??)

*giggles* Oh too funny FW! I don't have cable, but I think I've seen the show. I just wanted to do something nice for DH. I think he's got a long wait for his man cave in the basement. Our attic is a finished loft and after I get things decluttered downstairs I had planned on hitting the loft. I thought that if I can get it done in time it might make a nice birthday present for him.

LOL. When my sons were getting too old for a playroom, we turned the extra bedroom into Dad's mancave. While he was gone hunting. For a surprise.

We put up hunting wallpaper. We got a really nice computer desk, and set him up. We put a recliner in there, and a TV. MOved his gun cabinet in there, etc.

He was really surprised. He still goes in there and plays computer games and stuff. He loves his cave.

Sometimes, unfortunately, I watch HGTV too. I'm going to go against the grain here and say I hate the word mancave and he'll have one when I have a womancave where I can escape.

So the man goes to work and comes home to hibernate in total comfort in front of a TV/computer/pool table etc in another quiet room while the wife comes home from work to fix supper, take care of the kids, dishes, laundry, homework, kids to bed....then when he's done he gets up and goes to bed. She goes to bed when her second job is done.

NOT...sorry Polly, since HGTV started that word and it's used 20 times in a half hour and the men make such a big deal out of it....it's become a REAL big sore point with me. Talk about double standard.

Off my soapbox. My apology if I sound harsh. I even just hate the word...but so does hubby.

I understand what you're saying Niko. That mentality gets under my skin also.

I am designing my own womancave, or more to my liking a boudoir from the room that was formerly DS1's room, then DS2's schoolroom. I've been planning it for quite sometime. The room really is no bigger then a really big closet (just like all the rooms in this house) But, it will be all mine. I kinda thought I'd like to do the same for him.

Cool! Equality! That works. Geesh, I used to love househunters until they started that very topic..."MUST have a mancave"...I have actually started watching it less because of this.
