Anyone use
acorns? I know there's a cookbook for this and we have several oaks. Every year when the oak trees dump the pounds and pounds of acorns on my lawn, driveway, etc. I tell myself I should have bought that cookbook and USE this free resource I have at hand.
Does anyone do this? If so, can you discuss it a little please? Pros? Cons?
TIA --
Judi

I have and do -- but only for special occasions (Sol, etc.). . . they are a PAIN to do.
You have to crack each nut and remove the meat -- then soak the meats, until all the tannin is removed. . . this can take days, depending on the type of oak tree. . . . then dry, then grind the acorns into flour. . . .

I read a recipe where you removed the woody tops of the acorn and then soak them overnight in salted water. You then cook them in 3 waters the next day until they get tender. This was supposedly a Cherokee recipe.
Not tried it myself as I had no acorns.
