DH bought a "pumpkin" pie yesterday at Hannafords (Concord) it's more like a custard pie w/ some pumpkin added, very little pumpkin taste. We have two pie pumpkins to use and DH has been angling for pumpkin pie for a while...the two or three he's bought have been either too sweet or just didn't taste like pumpkin.

I definitely see pumpkin pie making in my immediate future. I never did "master" pie crusts, but there are a few really good ones out there, and if I have to I can buy a PIllsbury one, I even have a coupon!

One of my favorite things to do is to make pumpkin soup with it and serve it in the shell, no dish to clean up!

I used to bake it up and puree it for pumpkin pie filling. But the last couple of years the boys (12 & 9) have requested dh drop it off the roof so they can see it explode Then they just leave the mess for the squirrels & birds to eat.

The teenagers in my neighborhood have always smashed them up in the street later at night.

So, I quit putting out real ones and got a couple of fakes with the lights in them at Big Lots, and I use them now. And bring them in after the trick or treaters are done.

Like YankeeMom, I roast it and pouree it. I bake the seeds for snacks. If it has sat out for any length of time though carved for a jack0lantern I give it to my hens. They love it.

We have styrofoam pumpkins. They look real and we reuse them every year.
