I must be way harder than you all on kitchen towels as I need new ones every few years or so. Hard to tell actually as they seem to be a cycle not wearing out at the same time. I do wash them in ultra hot water (sanitary cycle 140 degrees) to kill all bacteria and such and I was every other day. I also use the dishtowels for everything washing dishes, hands, mopping the floor (I attach it to my swiffer and mop away) and other cleaning. they really get used hard.
Oldest towel I have right now are 10 years old and are cheap ones called bar mops. I replaced them just recently with new bar mops. I think they were 5 for $3 maybe.
I haven't found the more expensive ones I was given to last any longer than the others.
The other working linens we don't buy often at all.
as for oven mitts I was given a set of really nice pamper chef ones and I just use those.
hot pads we use the silicone ones that can be washed in the dishwasher we have some other kind from wedding presents that we keep on hand but haven't really used."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

I haven't bought any in ages! I usually get them as gifts and that is just fine with me as everyone knows what color my kitchen is.

Hmm, I bought most of my kitchen towels at a dollar store when I started university. The towels are now 10 years old and although stained (my roommates didn't understand the "good linens vs. cleaning rags" concept), the fabric is wearing really well. Surprisingly, the nicer towels that I paid more for at a kitchen specialty shop are the ones falling apart after 3 yrs.
I've been by the dollar store where I bought the towels and the kitchen linens they have now don't look nearly as hard-wearing. I rarely buy kitchen linens, most of my cloth napkins, pot holders and dish towels were handed down to me by relatives when they redid their kitchens and wanted colours that were more in style.I want to kill my mortgage! 192,391/197,370 (since July 2011)

Actually, I don't buy towels very often as so many people give them to me as gifts!

Bank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. When the world ends the only things that will be left are cockroaches, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Not necessarily in that order. The order remains to be seen.

I have never in my life bought a dish towel, pot holder, bath towel or oven mitts. They've all been wedding or christmas gifts.
