    Default can I use Lentils to stretch split pea soup?

    I'm making split pea soup for dinner from the ham bone from xmas dinenr tonight... I thought I had 2 bags of split peas...I only have 1 but I have 2 bags of lentils...
    Can I use 1 bag split peas and 1 bag lentils? Will I be able to taste a difference?

    You can but yes it will taste different. How big are these bags? I use one lb of split peas when I make my soup, one ham bone and 9 c. of water + other ingredients.

    You can use lentils. There will be a slight taste difference but unless you are super picky it will be minimal.

    Darlene- that's pretty much how I make mine also but I make a double batch every time I make it...
    I'm planning on canning some of the leftovers this time...

    I always add cut up potatoes and fresh cut up carrots to mine.and of course onion and celery.I also use vegetable broth cubes.

    I would say go ahead. Also, to help strengthen the flavor add a pureed can of peas. When I make split pea soup I use dried peas, frozen peas, and canned peas. Always turns out very flavorful.
