Loss Leaders are foods that the store wants to get rid of or move so they put it on sale.

They can also be items on a great sale on the front page or back page of a grocery ad designed to lure you into the store. Then the hope is that you'll buy other items while you are there.

Loss leaders are the items advertised in the flyer at good to bargain prices in hopes to draw you to shop at their store to pick up those specific items. The store hopes that you will do the remainder of your shopping in their store as well - with their regular every day pricing.

Loss leaders/items in flyers are usually placed in a special section/corner so they're found easier. Sometimes they're found on end caps - the display at the end of the aisles.

Thanks so much. I shop for the sale items only at some stores. We have a couple of wal-marts that will match the price on sale items even store brand. Thanks. I appreciate the info.

I often go to the grocery for only the loss leaders and several of each if possible.

Almost of everything I buy is on sale, but there are somethings we can't live without like Toilet paper. and there only 1 brand I buy. But I buy it where it is cheaper.

Me too. But a couple of our stores don't have very good ones. Have to know your prices.

Yep, i agree with the above explanations. I too have been known to only shop the loss leader items. Some times I stock up on them if I know the price is good.

The part I underlined is called "cherry picking" so yet another new term for you. Cherry Picking: The Weapon of Choice for Price-conscious Consumers

The cherry picker term is new to me, but I like it (because it describes me ). I love learning new expressions like that, so thanks!
