I just purchased a 2 pack last week. I put the larger one in my crockpot after rubbing it with salt, pepper, garlic powder and sage. It was fall off the bone tender. I pulled out the bone keeping the larger section intact and have been slicing the larger section for meals.
The smaller of the 2 was cut into chunks and ground for hm sausage.
You could cook both in a crockpot (separate times if they don't fit) then use the meat with seasonings/sauces/accompaniments as you use them. (BBQ, with apples and sauerkraut, etc.)The Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.

I too will cook one and freeze one. I usually opt to cook all night in the crockpot and then shred the next morning and simmer for half the day in bbq sauce. Then it is bbq pork and coleslaw on buns. Yummy!!!

Well, honestly you don't have a lot of choices. You can do it in the oven, a crockpot or in a smoker but you're going to end up with pulled pork every time. I like to put bbq rub on ours and braise it or smoke it.
You can use the meat in sandwiches, tacos or stew, once you've got it cooked.
Unless you have some way of grinding it for sausage or ground pork to use in meatballs and sauce.Use it up, Wear it out,

I have used dry onion soup and put in crockpot for pulled pork..I also take some of it and put with potato chunks for hash. Of course BBQ is best. Not bad made like a manhatin in a gravy with mashed potatoes. I have also put cooked macroni and cooked roast in bakeing dish added a can of cheese soup and bread crumbs or crushed potato chips to the top and baked..

*sliced or shredded l/o roast sandwiches
*add bbq sauce for bbq sandwiches
~Original meal
*Smoked pork roast with grilled veggies

You can also cut it up in chunks to make a stew and use later. Freeze a 1/2 pound quantity to slice thin for a stir fry. You can also make a curry with some chunks of meat.

I fixed one yesterday. I put it in the crockpot and add onion soup mix and a can of cream of mushroom soup. Cooked on high in the crockpot for 4 hours and then I added 2 onions and some new potatoes skin and all. Cooked for 4 more hours. It was sooo good.
Another crockpot recipe...roast, rub roast with 1/2 cup of brown sugar, place in crockpot and pour a can of pepsi over the top. Add sliced up onions about 4 hours into cooking. Cook until fall off the bone tender.
Pulled pork is always an option.
Slice the roast up into chunks or slices, roll in a flour, spices, bread crumb mixture and fry in the skillet. Serve with gravy and biscuits. Yum! *if you want a bit of a different taste add a little Worcestershire sauce or steak sauce to the oil when frying.Wife of Danny for 28 years...the love of my life and my best friend..

Great ideas!!!
All I have ever done with it was make a roast meal ~ always crockpot, with seasonings, red potatoes, and baby carrots..
My problem was I couldn't think of anything else to do with roast and anything I found took a lot of ingredients..
I just figured I could get at least 2 meals out of one that aren't just a roast meal...
Thank You!!!!!!Mom of 4

I have not read the responses, so I apologize if this has been mentioned already. I sometimes slice an onion and put the roast on top of it in the crock pot. Sprinkle garlic powder and salt on top and cook on low for several hours. I then discard the onion and remove the roast, allowing it to cool somewhat on a rack. It should be in pieces, making it easier to remove the fat. I then put it in a mixing bowl and add a bottle of BBQ sauce. This can be frozen, served as is, or used in sandwiches.

You can make pozole with it. (mexican pork & hominy soup)
Here's how I make it
Cut butt roast into chunks
Put chunks into a pot with:
a couple cans of white hominy, drained,
one whole onion, peeled but left intact,
couple/few minced cloves of garlic
chicken broth to cover
mexican oregano & cumin to taste
1 or 2 bay leaves
1/2 can red enchilada sauce, more or less, to taste
Simmer until pork is tender
When soup is done, remove the whole onion, ladle into bowls and top with: (and all are optional)
Shredded cabbage or lettuce (I prefer cabbage)
radish slices
chopped onion
crushed tortilla chips
a squeeze of fresh lime juiceLast edited by starsapphire; 01-23-2011 at 01:56 PM.
