I am working toward being there, hopefully by the time I am eligible to retire in ten years. So I've thought about this question, but just in terms of how I will live when I'm retired. If I had the mortgage paid off now, and had nothing but utility bills to worry about, I'd continue to live as I do, but I'd be chunking a pile of cash into doing some major renovations to the house, as I'd love to transform it into the house I want to retire into!

I'd only do the frugal stuff that I enjoy, and for me, that's mostly the parts that overlap with being environmentally responsible (rags instead of paper towels, laundry in cold, etc).

I'd spend more money on classes - yoga lessons for me, gymnastics/swimming/etc for DS. Take some cooking classes. Meditation classes.

I'd also spend more money on pampering - pedicures, facials, massages - it's something that I'll do once or twice a year, but if I had all the money to spend I'd go once a month.

I read this thread the other day & I've been thinking a lot about it. I like the way I live & probably wouldn't change much in my day to day life, except as others have said, work in some vacation time. However, if I had some money to spend, I would like to make my place more self sufficient. I would love to have a windmill, some solar panels, one of those out door furnaces... (we are all electric). Right now DH is not on the bandwagon for those things because he said we won't live long enough to ever see the cost benefits from them... I also would spend the money to have the driveway (.1 mile) fully cemented with some sort of heat built into it so we don't have to clear snow & ice & live every winter with the anxiety of not knowing if we can get in or out!!!!!

I would still live frugally to save money for our retirement and to fix our home up to sell it so we can move to a warmer climate to retire and enjoy our golden years.

I think I would continue living my frugal life with a few minor changes. Going on vacations has been mentioned a couple of times on here and is definitely one I would add too! I would also be able to buy completely organic-I buy a lot of organic now but not completely...
