    Default photo editing software?

Any photo editing software out there that does not cost an arm and a leg? I am mainly interested in cleaning up a background from a picture.

I have windows vista home premium. Have no idea if there is something on this computer that I can already use or if I need to buy or obtain some other software.

    Thanks in advance.

PhotoImpact is fairly inexpensive and a good program.

Gimp is open source and it is free for the download. I've heard nothing but good about it and the photos I've seen done with Gimp have looked good.

I just dowloaded microsoft digital image standard editor 2006 software. It comes free with my windows vista home premium. So far seems to be doing what I want.
