Strawberry runners
Just out in the garden and notice alot of runners from my Strawberry plants, very green. If I cut these off and pot them in the GH will they root? The reason for asking is I read that they should stay attached to the mother plant until they root.Anyone know?

You may be able to use growth hormone but I would take them after they root.

Cutting them off will reduce the survival rate, but some will likely survive.
The baby plants need nutrients. Since they don't have their own roots, they are dependent on the parent plant until they develop their own roots. Cutting off the runner cuts off their supply of nutrients. However, a strong plantlet may have enough of its own resources that it can grow roots before it starves.

Just thought I would update this question.I thought I would try taking these runners and potting them up just to see.Planted them right away into potting soil in hanging baskets. Now today they are flowering,on very strong plants.
So answering my own question, yes you can take runners in early Spring, pot them up and they will root,AND produce fruit.Yeah!
