Anyone have a Roku Box?
I've been thinking about getting one, and cutting my Netflix package down to streaming only.
Does anyone have one? Do you like it? Is it cost-effective and easy to use?

We have one at our house, and absolutely love it. Set-up and use is incredibly easy. One of the best purchases we've made in a long time. We mostly use streaming through Netflix, but have also added a number of free private channels and sometimes rent movies through Amazon.

Yes, we got one recently and switched to Netflix online streaming only. We also get to watch a lot of Amazon movies and shows free through our Prime membership. We like it a lot and tend to watch it more than cable now.

You can stream now through Wii and PS3, which is what we use. If you have either of those you don't have to use a roku. My mom loves hers though.

I don't have a Roku box but when my father was visiting (he has netflix/I don't) and I looked into streaming from his account via our Wii, of the three movies I wanted to test-stream, NONE were available to stream but were DVD by mail only. These included the 4th Harry Potter movie; Beverly Hills Chihuahua (ugh, for DD) and I can't remember the other. So just beware not all movies are available in streaming mode.

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! Our total price to watch tv and movies is $60 for the Roku, $20 for our flat panel antenna (free with gift card for buying my Steam Cleaner...which I love) and $10/mth for Netflix (We still get one dvd at a time for the things that aren't available on instant streaming)
Plus I love all the old movie channels, Pandora (great for parties), HGTV, NPR and APM, and all the other free content that you don't get with normal cable.

We just got one this week and LOVE it! We do netflix, all the free channels, hulu plus $8 a month but love it so much it is worth it, plus we are using playon for $5 a month to stream regular hulu to our tv. We are not missing our cable at all. There is never a moment we say there is nothing on tv anymore.

Is there a way to use roku on more than one tv? Probably need to have another box I'm guessing. Roku is new to me and I really could/should go to their website & read up but thought I'd ask here, lol.

We have a Roku and a Sony BlueRay (wireless). We like the Roku better, less problems. The Sony had (firmware) bugs, it's better now but still disconnects sometimes during viewing. The Roku never does this and is farther away from the router. The only thing about these devices is that you have to scroll through the titles and when you have a lot in your queue--it is kinda tedious. You can search by name/title but you have to do it by scrolling through the alphabet to build the name. It would be nice if Netflix gave you more ability to organize your queue through your PC. Netflix is getting a bunch of new content soon and also making improvements like grouping series together in one location instead of having all the separate seasons listed as separate items in the queue. Just noticed this last week.
We gave up cable a year ago and don't miss it one bit! I don't like commercials--they annoy me.Last edited by Lynn4; 03-26-2011 at 06:30 PM. Reason: added info

I have one, it's fantastic. I mostly use it for Netflix, but occasionally use Pandora. It has channels for a lot of PBS, CNN, and other stations, plus a plethora of options. I recently stumbled upon Crackle, which has free streaming movies with occasional commercials.
Here's a link for all available channels:
