    Default restaining wood

    Has anyone restained wood?
    I have light colored coffee table,end tables and a corner cabinet that I'd like to restain a darker color...
    I know they need to be stripped but they have alot of nooks and crannies...Is there a spray on stripper?
    any advice appreciated...I priced out new ones but theres really nothing wrong with these, just grew out of the color...

    I'm not sure, but I do think their is a spray on. My only suggestion is to make sure the wood is good wood and I mean that because years ago dh stripped our kitchen cabinets; what a mess and then when he stained the wood it came out bad because it wasn't good wood.

    I re-finished a little nightstand several years back but I cant remember if the paint stripper I used was spray-on or wipe on. Either way, the stripper is very caustic so be careful, wear old clothes w/long sleeve shirt and rubber gloves. If you get it on your skin you'll know because it will start to burn. You'll want some sandpaper, and even better, a small electric sander to get the nooks and crannies.

    I was going to stain the nightstand (was painted before) but I could tell after I stripped it that it wasn't going to look good. I ended up painting it with some spray on Krylon and it came out cute, but I wish I had used primer first. Lesson learned.
    “When you get to the end of all the light you know
    and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
    faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
    you will be given something solid to stand on,
    or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller

    “Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
    there are signs that the world is speedily
    coming to an end;
    bribery and corruption are common; children no
    longer obey their parents;
    every man wants to write a book and the
    end of the world is evidently approaching.”
    — From a translation of an inscription on
    an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.

    I have restained wood. The chemicals seem to have changed in the past few years and do not work as well as they once did. Our last project took forever to complete with both DH and myself working on it. It was just a basic table and took 2 cans of remover (back when I started restaining, it may have taken me 1/4 a can) and lots of sanding. If it is a set you seriously love, you may consider getting some estimates of what it would take a professional to at least strip it if not do the whole process.

    I have re-stained several items to make them a darker color.
    I didn't strip them. I just sanded them lightly and applied the new stain.
    Here are pictures of my kitchen cabinets (before and after).
    I also stained the little "cart" that I use as an island.
    I think they turned out great.

    I was wondering what type of wood you had. They came out wonderful. My kitchen cabinets are oak. I love the darker color you put on yours. My cabinets are a lighter color. I would love to go darker. My counter tops are black. I don't know If I could go real dark. but love you. TC

    My cabinets are oak. Any color that's darker than the original should work fine.
