    Default rug + urine

hi i know similar stuff has been posted but i couldnt find what i was looking for or i saw it and didnt realize it was the anser =)

i have a rug like 5 x 8..dogs and kids messed up..mainly urine is the problem..so i took it outside and hosed it down, scrubbed it with some vinegar and detergent, hosed it again and letting it dry but im pretty sure its still gonna stink some...should i do it repeatedly..until the smell is gone?

We use Nature's Miracle on our carpets that are wall to wall. It is an enzyme that actually breaks down the biological components of urine and blood. (I've used it to remove blood from our sofa and a client's carpet). It can be a little pricey but it is a great product. Most of the large pet stores have gallon and quart size bottles.

    Default Pet Urine Remover

    Ingredients:
1 (8 ounce) bottle hydrogen peroxide
    2 teaspoons baking soda
1 -2 drop liquid dish soap

    Directions:
    1. Mix all together gently and pour in a spray bottle.
    2. Do no shake up this mix or you may have a lot of foam. I have also used a watering can this works well also.
    3. Spray onto urine stain and walk away. Allow to dry. No need to rub or scrub the area. For tough odors you may have to repeat.
    4. I would also check your fabric/carpet for color fastness before using due to the peroxide content. I have never had any problems with any fabric changing colors from this mix.

This is the best and cheapest method we have found and it works for our shelter.

    Hope this helps.

Since it is outside, use alcohol (can be used inside but clean well as it can flame)

I use OdoBan odor eliminator. The only place I could buy it was at Sams, but I've noticed that the local Dollar Store is selling a smaller bottle of it. It has a very nice smell and will take the odors out.

Please have someone who will be honest come in and smell where you have treated with OdoBan. I had someone who swore up and down that stuff worked but when you went into the house you could smell the strong smell of pee right along side the strong perfume in OdoBan.

well yesterday i used the "jet" setting on the hose
then detergent and vinegar and scrubbed it in, the used the hose on "jet" again..rolled it and squeezed some water out then hung it up to dry...i thought i would need to do it a few more times but this afternoon i smelled it allover and nothing...so i brought it back in...but its rough to the touch i should have used some softener too..but i moved it under the dinning room table so its fine

    thanks everyone

I swear by Natures Miracle too. The trick is to pour alot on to get it all the way down to the padding.

FYI - if you aren't using something thats made for breaking down pet urine, you might not be able to smell it but your pet will still be able to and this might encourage them to go there again.

Humidity will bring the odors out....so maybe try some small bowls of vinegar and bkng soda around the room that has/had the rug in it? what about some hidden charcoal odor eaters hidden just in case? just a thought...

Like you said, just gotta watch out for the hydrogen peroxide as it can bleach some fabrics so you'll end up with a bleach stain instead of a urine stain. I've spilled it on some stuff by accident only to end up throwing it out because it was ruined now.

I definitely recommend Nature's Miracle. Definitely works well and we have been fostering dogs for 4 years and have two of our own along with two cats.
