Argh... straight talk phone
Who has straighttalk? Did you have problems getting it activated?
I purchased straighttalk from WM yesterday, went to have my phone # transferred (from US Cellular) and now I have no service from either provider.
How long will it take to get it activated? I went back to WM and spoke to them... no help. I used their phone to call straight talk and was told there are NO customer service people available. Have I made a mistake getting this?
I have a special needs child and must have phone service. I was trying to save a bit of money. If You Find Yourself Dancing In The Rain

According to their website it can take up to 7 days to port a cell phone number and up to 30 days to port a land line number http://www.straighttalk.com/FAQ

It did take a little longer than usual to activate the phone with a landline, but not excessive. I got a new phone number so it was quicker. It might take longer due to the holiday too.
Otherwise, service and price has been good, even during the tornado/storms we had in April. It was one of the few cell services that still worked... yay.Kim

Straight Talk is Tracfone ... same company anyway. As I said, compared to the price of all the others (i.e. Boost and AT&T Go Phone and T-Mobile), the price is the best. And as I said I've had good service, better than even the AT&T contract phones a few of my friends have.
I hope things get better.Kim

It did take about 36 hours for my number to transfer. I just added my second "service" card and have had no problems with my service. Hope yours gets fixed soon.

I made a trip to WM and they were no help. Told me to call the # for ST. I told them I couldn't because I had no working phone. They allowed me to use their courtesy phone but when I called was told no customer service was available. ggrrr...
I came home and went to their FB page. There I was able to send a ticket. They emailed me and after a couple emails I was activated. Yeah!! It only took them app. 10 minutes to activate me.If You Find Yourself Dancing In The Rain

I just purchased their Android phone for $149 with the $45 month plan last week.
It took about 2-3 hours for my number to be transferred. Great. This past weekend CT got hit with a snow storm and alot of power lines were down/are still down. I had downloaded a few "apps" and wasn't able to phone out or txt or email. I uninstalled the apps and had service.
On Monday the phone was working well so I tried to download 2 apps and again I couldn't make a call. I uninstalled and everything is fine.
So..I haven't spent any time with it yet to figure out what the problem is but so far, I'm not impressed. And service is also very spotty in my area. I've lost a few calls where before with Verizon, I hadn't lost a call in over a year.
A friend of mine also bought the (Samsung Galaxy Precedent) Android phone from Straight Talk and he had issues over the weekend, possibly storm related, but things are working fine for him. He is in a much more populated area than I am.Judy

My oldest bought one yesterday. He had his Verizon number transferred within 2 hours.
However when the younger son bought him it took 2 days and a few calls. When you call you do have the right to ask for an operator in America by the way. We discovered this after going through several; people we could not understand well.

oooooo straighttalk.... where do i start
i have had straight talk for like 1.5 years.... each and every phone call to them is misery... besides the lack of english and smark alec reps, no two people have ever given me the same answer. i have never called once and gotten anything done, it requires waiting and calling back to report that what i was promised wasn't done, then the rep makes another empty promise to me... as soon as i can afford a new phone i am going to verizon.
(although i didnt know that i could request a rep from america. this tickles me to death and i will try it next time.)

just to give an update....I haven't installed much on my phone yet but service has gotten much better. So I think there may have been a tower down because of the storm. It still drops a call in the same area but at least I know this and expect it now.
I'm also getting used to the phone so its not as bad as the first few days of not even knowing how to answer a call. Just like anything, takes a little getting used to. I'm not giving up on it yet and I'll keep you posted if anything dramatic changes.Judy

Funny to see this thread today.
When I got up this morning my ST had been deactivated so no service. I sent a ticket via their website. Was told my cc (debit) was declined. (I was on autopay). I went to the bank, they told me it was not declined, just never submitted for payment. sigh
I've had ST since July... service was so-so. Lots of dropped calls, poor audio, etc.
As of this afternoon I went back to USCellular. Oh, ST wouldn't release my number so with a new number. If You Find Yourself Dancing In The Rain

Wow...I have had straighttalk for over a year and not once have I had a problem! In my area and other straighttalk users I have come across have all been thrilled. Maybe it was just your area and experience! Sorry you had so much trouble! I don't foresee myself changing from straighttalk anytime soon!
