Storage containers
What types of storage containers do you all use for things like dry mixes, cereals, grains, beans, rice ? I read that certain containers, like mayo jars etc are not good because they may not seal tight. Dont have a lot of money in the budget to spend on expensive container systems.

I use the 1/2 gallon or 1 gallon glass mason jars. I found a case for $8 and put rice, cereal etc in them. It helps you see what is in it and how much and doesn't have that plastic odor in the food.
I initially went to target to get the glass containers and thought they were expensive. Then I thought, what did they do back in the day??? Mason jars!!! Ive been happy ever since and they are not expensive. Easy to clean!Step 1 $207/1500

I'm in the midst of transferring from dad's form of 'storage' to these b/c his way just isn't working. We lost a large bag of flour due to his method not being as 'air tight' as it should've been. I too prefer glass but that won't fly with my dad - he'll recycle the newly purchased mason jar for the old washed out mayo/jam jars etc. Yes, he would waste money like that

I usually buy one every week or two when I see a coupon for 20% off. This week I found a store selling the B1G1 50% off - better then my coupon! I only bought two but I will need to see how many more we truly need. I think WalMart is starting to sell these too but only select sizes.
Also, if you can't afford mason jars right off the bag, fold a piece of plastic wrap twice and place over the opening of the mayo jar before screwing the lid on, that helps keep it somewhat more air tight then just the lid alone.2012: The Year Of The Purge!
