Default How to fix a torn dryer screen?

Don't ask me how this happened, but somehow a fork ran through our washing machine and when it reached our dryer it made a hole in the filter screen (where the lint collects)

Has anyone repaired or replaced one of these? Our dryer is about 15 years old, a Maytag fwiw.

What did you use to patch the hole in your dryer screen, and do you have any advice for how to fix it.

I think I would start by looking at repair kits for window screens. Check the material they are made out of and see if that would work for your application.

A second choice would be to sew the screen with a wire. The floral wire in my hobby kit would be about the right size. There may be other wires in the homes stores.

Or you can check repairclinic.com for a replacement. I found parts there for my fridge that I was told by the mnfg. were unavailable.

Please list the model number. I can search for a part and will link in the thread.

Thanks everyone (especially Gabe!). Our neighbor was throwing out a tent that had torn during Irene and I took enough of the mesh screen to fix the dryer screen with a needle and thread!
