    Default Clay cookers

Does anyone use one? Looks like the one thread I found was quite old.

Are they really good for making artisan breads?

Could I cook a duck in one?

I got one years ago as a wedding gift. It made the most tender, moist beef roasts and roasted chickens. I forgot to soak it before baking once and cracked it. I would love to get another one day.

I have a traditional clay pot with lid from a Greek island. I use it regularly for bean and chickpea dishes. It makes great spinach rice (spanakorizo, a Greek dish). I've never tried either bread or meat in it, preferring to use it for legumes. But it does those really really well. Of course it takes forever compared to the pressure cooker.

The island where I bought it is famous for their "48 hour chickpea dish" - they put the pot with the chickpeas in village's communal woodburning stove for a full 48 hours!!! Sooo delicious....

I use my (camping) Dutch oven for that. Never had a clay pot, but if I find one cheap, I might try it.
