sometimes i do ususally not for big ticket or high demand items i dont go to electronic stores or toy stores or stores like walmart where the crowds are crazy .
if a store like kohls boscovs or macys is offering a free 20$ GC to first 200 and the weather is nice and it starts at 6 i will go ad just get a free gift .
lately the hours keep getting earlier and earlier so i dont do as much
i usually take 10 off 20 $ coupons from macys that are usually good on black friday and saturday and one AM each go to a different store and hit the clearance racks for clothes for the family . most people are at the other stores so lines arent bad and not too many cranky people lol
really depends on the weather and my mood most black friday deals you can do online in some places also ad starting thanksgiving eve sometimes*~Debbi~*

I do but all we have in town is walmart. It is always crazy in there but I allow alot of time and enjoy the frenzy. Most of my shopping is done so I go more for the entertainment.

No. Never have, never will. It's like a feeding frenzy for crazed sharks. I know people who live for the day after Thanksgiving shopping. It's just not for me. We tend to do the whole "experience" thing rather than buy gifts. This year we are going to see Daniel Radcliffe in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" on Broadway. NYC is a shark tank of a whole 'nuther kind!!!

We did it once. We divided the stores between all the adults in the family except Grandpa (he stayed home with all the grandkids) and had a master list of everything wanted in the family. We each tried to get what was on the list for our store, but didn't stampeed or anything crazy. It worked really well and we were all back home within an hour with all the stores visited. We then paid each other back for what was purchased for us. Since each store was visited first thing most of what we wanted was found. Now that we live far from family my hubby goes to one store to try for what we want the most and I hit the online deals.

Like Debbiecat If I venture out that day at all it is not to jump on some big deal of the day and is certainly not at some early mornng hours for sure. I only go for the entertainment value and it used to be when you would start to get into the season. That part is soooooooooooo overdone by that day now since they have already started with the music and commercials the day AFTER Halloween its not special at all.

I think what I enjoy most is looking thru the sale ads on Thanksgiving Day. I remember lasting year having a conversation at dinner that the sales weren't that spectacular... I think it's because last year the stores started to compete for shoppers before Thanksgiving.
I like to go out to a store or two where the crowd is brisk but not a mob, like Macys or Boscovs. I usually go after a really awesome deal... one year it was warm blankets for us, our grown kids & my Mom, and one year a bread maker for me.
It gets me in the mood for Christmas, and it will probably be the only Christmas shopping I'll do
This year is gonna be a slim one.

I used to. It was a ritual for my oldest and I. We did not however go for those crazy deals where people run you over. Ours was more a leisurely shopping day. That is with the exception of Bath and Body Works. We hit there first and pick up and bunch of stuff for the girls in the family. It could get a bit crazy in there. The rest of the day was in and out of stores. Boscovs was one that we would hit several times during the day because they would have timed sales. Like from 11-12 you could hit their hand bag tables and score $150 bags for like $7! Then they had slipper sales like that, hat and scarf sales like that, sports stuff like that. It used to be on a and on all day long. I don't know what they do now. One year every woman on my list got a hand bag, slippers, hats and scarfs, these gifts bags filled with full size make-up and perfume from their cosmetics counters, and tons of Bath and Body Works! That same year I scored $30 Barbie dolls for $2.99, this really expensive baby doll with all these accessories for under $10, Lego sets that were $80 for $20, Board games for under $5, and so much more. Boscovs ROCKS!

I used to. Would make a list and go shopping around 6:00am. This was when the stores first started opening up really early so there were very few people at the store. It was great since I could get all the shopping done and could enjoy the holidays not worrying about getting presents. Always made the holiday stress level lower especially when working and usually having to deal with overtime around the holiday.

I like that idea - very smart actually and you're not out all day which can sometimes ruin a shopping experience.

Not sure what we're planning on doing nor if we're brave enough to face the crowds. We will be in the US for Thanksgiving so this will be a first for me/us.

My mom and I like to go later in the morning, 8-ish and peruse, look at the decorations in the stores, get the Christmas Shopping groove feelings to get motivated. We don't usually pick up anything unless its a steal of a deal, more of a tradition than anything.
My bf's ex and her mom do the 3 a.m. thing, line up at the doors at 2 a.m., he watches the kids instead. I find it amusing, but don't see myself ever doing it. I'm not fond of that high level of energy, it kinda scares me. They've done it for years, really love it! Supposedly they get some steals, too.LDR

No. I spent 30 years retailing. There isn't a single item that I'm willing to fight a crowd to get. If I haven't gotten someone something beforehand, I do it later in the week. But we rarely buy high-demand toys or electronics, and when we do, we'll just shop around until we find them. And if we can't? Well, we get something else.
There just isn't any stuff that's worth fighting a crowd or being in one that's worth it for to us. If we pay more? Well, we do, and that's okay.
