    Default Throw away comforter?

I have an old comforter that I am currently bundled up in while I sit here. It is king size and is from my smoking days. I have washed it many times but can still smell a hint of old cigarette smoke from it. Have even aired it outside on different occasions. Main reason I still have it is for just in case someone stayed over.

Now I am thinking I should just toss it since I can't seem to get the smell completely out and head to some place like Family Dollar and pick up a queen size comforter.

    What would you do?

Have you washed it in vinegar? What about putting in a rubbermaid tub and sprinkling it with a good chunk of baking soda and letting it sit for a while?

Gross. I would pitch it. You can even find a nicer cleaner smelling one at a thrift shop. I've found you just can't quite ever get out that lingering smoking smell.....

Treat yourself to a new one from s.a. as a present for ever having quit smoking.

While writing the thread I was going through my mind that I have a down alternative comforter that I also use. So tonight is the last time I am going to use this comforter. Tomorrow it will be going into the trash. Will just wait and watch the clearance sales at Family Dollar to pick up an extra comforter. Really is not a rush so I will just wait and watch.

Although the frugal part of me keeps thinking I should still repurpose the comforter.

if it smells i wouldnt save it for guests or repurpose it . sometimes frugal "guilt" over not finding a way to save something or reuse it gets the better of us and wastes our time and energy.

Can you give the comforter to a local animal shelter? They could probably use it, and I doubt the dogs and kitties would mind the smell.

Donate to animal shelter or some place like the Star of Hope Mission. In the winter, shelters need things like this.

I did think about making a bed for my cat or donating to a shelter. The quilt is just going into the trash. Keep on thinking about third hand smoke.

I would go to the local bum hangout downtown and drop it off. The warmth from a comforter will greatly offset any negative affects from the smoke.

    Dump it.

Animals are very sensitive to smells.

Sometimes you just have to throw things away.

Put it under your shirt and tell people you're pregnant.

    Then dump it.
