    Default xmas decorating question

hi everyone! i am thinking of doing something different this year with my front door. i have a light grey house with a burgundy door and shutters. i would like to make a greenery to go around the doorframe, make a matching wreath, and a matching urn. if i use burgundy pointsettias it just would not show up. will a mixture of white and red pointsettias work? what colors would you use? i am thinking of ice crystal branches (but very expensive for a large area) and fake fruit, berries, and gold accents. i will have a spotlight on the front door. any suggestions?

It sounds really pretty, but I think you're right about the burgundy poinsettias not showing up.
I think I would use only the white ones.

Maybe you can make your own "ice crystal" branches.
Get some twigs, some spray adhesive and some white glitter.
Not exactly "iced", but from a distance you would get a similar effect.

Post pictures when you're done - we want to see!!

Perhaps white poinsettias with a burgundy ribbon? That way you'll have some contrast as well as the light shining on them.

They also have some light up ice crystal twigs that would look neat in your urn!

i was checking out what i had in my cellar. i also have a lot of glittery bronze stuff. maybe that would look good with the white instead of gold......hmmmm.......if i added some red......i wonder if that would be too much.............hmmmmm...... i also have a lot of silver and royal blue glitter stuff.....that would look good with white....although not very traditional............

White and silver are the colors this year... and there is a website that tells you how to make those iced branches. We did it last weekend and it works. So I would go with greenery...white and silver ornaments with iced branches intermixed. If you don't want to go out and buy new ornaments....spray your old and cover with either glitter or epsom salts. It works!!! Last weekend Michaels had ribbon on sale 70% off. You could get a roll for about $3.

I redecorated my whole house this year. I went to the Goodwill and refurbished things that I found there, re-purposed my own things, and bought a few things on sale at Michael's that brought everything up to date!
