should I/ would you....
stock up on onions?
A local store is having 2 pound bags of onions on sale for 68 cents for one day,no limits....normal price anywhere is over $2....
I can freeze or maybe can some?Me 34 DH 37 DS 6

i personally would buy 10 bags...
cut a few of the bags up and put in the freezer...and i think onions keep for a long time...we eat onions here in most everything so....20lbs of onions would last maybe 6 months...and i think they would be good for that....

I think you can chop them and tray freeze for use in cooking, but I've never done it myself. If you have a cool dry place you can just store them there, but if it's too cold they will freeze and rot.
How much were you planning to buy? Is that a huge sale for you? How much onion do you normally eat? They are pretty much always cheap here, I don't even bother trying to stock up when they are on sale.

Yep like a.l.o.g.d. said you can chopp them up and freeze them and they should be good for a long time. They sell them in the freezer section at the grocery store so I don't see a reason you could not do the same thing.

Take a pair (or two) of old pantyhose and drop an onion in each leg then tie a not in each leg right above the onion and keep adding onions and tying knots until you get to the top then hang in a cool, dry place like your basement. That way the onions get air and don't touch each other and last much longer. Just cut off the bottom knot every time you need an onion.
I could EASILY use 20lbs of onions before they went bad if I did this.

I freeze chopped and sliced onions all of the time. We use them for soups, stews, sauteed onions over meats, in casseroles, etc...I chop or slice, put them in small zippy bags and freeze away.

I use onions in just about EVERYTHING - sliced, diced, pureed (sometimes you just have to hide them
)
If I stumble on a sale before I am doing the OAMC cooking, I have no problem with freezing them once they are cut and bagged. It's also cheaper and easier than running out for a small bag of diced onions for a soup recipe or something.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

I would chop a lot and slice a lot to freeze.. YUM and cheap- way to go.

We dice them up and freeze them on cookie sheets before we put them in baggies. They stay loose so you can reach in and grab just a handful.

I chop and freeze onions all the time. Such a convenience because I absolutely HATE chopping onions so I do it all at the same time (save a few for times when I need fresh onions).
I also do the same with bell peppers. It's so nice to be able to just grab a handful and add to sauces, ground hamburger etc. and not have to deal with the mess when I'm trying to cook.

Yeah, I found that out too........but if you don't mind the smell.......they do dehydrate beautifully!
If you are in an area where you can run the dehydrator outside.......that would be great.
I did mine in the garage.......still too smelly for me.
I might do some more this summer.........outside!

I freeze the chopped onions and peppers in ice trays and then put in ziplock bags in the freezer..I use a lot of them so will do 30 + lb when I have then from the garden..They usually don't last all winter...but then I put them in everything...I only used them in cooked food after I freeze..I also make onion rings with the outer rings and freeze them on a cookie sheet and them keep them in bags..I usually cook them just a bit before I put them on the sheet and then I just drop them in the deep fryer frozen and fry to golden brown..
