    Default Canned Salmon

Any ideas on how to use it other than salmon patties? I made them and they were okay not great though. I like to have some on my food storage but want to be able to make a few dishes that are worth eating.

Thanks in advance for letting me pick your brains. Everyone had great ideas for different pasta toppings so I would love to hear ideas on the canned salmon or salmon in general too!

Thanks jas..............this post could help me too.

Maybe try a different pattie recipe that someone has tried and really likes...........

No ideas from me..........I eat it as I know it is good for me.........but I will just get lazy and either fix it like a tuna fish sandwich........or use ramen noodles (cooked) and make some sort of salad..........toss in whatever your family likes.

I like to keep it "on hand" too..........would make a good emergency food if I needed it.

Other than the stuff that was already mentioned...

    • salmon frittata
    • scrambled eggs with salmon
    • omelet with a salmon, cream cheese, herbs, etc. filling
    • avocado stuffed with salmon salad
    • baked tomatoes, eggplant or mushrooms stuffed with salmon salad
    • salmon chowder (google "Scrumptious Salmon Chowder" for a recipe... it can be made with canned salmon too)

Mix it with finely diced onion & mayo for salmon salad sammies (vs traditional tuna)

My mom used to nuke or steam the canned tuna (in can shape still) in a dish in the microwave...once warmed through lightly, she'd add diced green onions/scallions/shallots and then pour a lil bit of hot oil over top - which helped release the onion flavours. Salt & pepper to taste if desired. Sometimes she'd heat the oil with a clove of squashed garlic and chili flakes. Served as a family style 'main' dish.

I really like this recipe, which is made in the microwave, a bonus, Salmon Puff Recipe - Food.com - 49533

There are a whole bunch of recipes posted here, Recipes - Food.com - many of them have been reviewed and rated, which helps you find the ones that are likely to be winners in your home.

I also like salmon loaf, like meatloaf. Make a creamy sauce flavored with lemon and dill to go with - delicious.

    Default canned salmon

I love salmon and my hubby does not. But when we have it I make a sauce with cucumbers, lemon juice, mayo sour cream and chives to use as a topping. My mother would serve it chilled right from the can. We would put lemon juice on it. I loved this meal as a kid because she seemed to make french fries with this dinner. My Aunt served us salmon loaf at her house. I came home a made my verison of her dish. She used canned soup but I like to make my on cream sauces. Add some cream sauce and a little bread crumbs and chopped green pepper to the loaf and bake. Take the rest of the cream sauce and add some hot pepper flakes and lemon juice and serve over the baked loaf. I love fresh salmon, grilled, baked, broiled on pan seared. I usally brush with some olive oil and add dill. cilantro or chives when cooking. But it's wonderful plain too You've got me hungry now, I gotta get some salmon! Enjoy

Thank you for posting. I had two cans of salmon sitting in my cupboard & I finally got them used last night. I made salmon loaf. It turned out pretty good. In fact, I'm going to have a salmon loaf sandwich for lunch today.
