Default Does anyone buy their own Health Insurance?

We are losing our Health Insurance in October so I need to start looking for a new plan now. I am looking for information on what insurance to you buy and where should I look. There is only my DH and I that will need it the kids are grown and gone. Thank you for the help.

You want to have something in place before you loose yours...I found it was cheaper that way..Also health will make a big difference in what you can get and the cost...I understand that each state has different rules..

Before I left my employer, I contacted the insurance plan that I had through my employer to see if I could convert it to an individual family plan. I was able to apply and be accepted from the same company and now buy my own insurance directly from them. You might try that before looking for different insurance companies.

If you decide to look around, I've read that people look at einsurance.com to get quotes from difference companies.

    Hi,
I may be in your shoes shortly so I've been watching for info. I got this info from a magazine that I just found out about. Here is a website that they recommended. Home | HealthCare.gov. Hope this helps.

I buy my own. I asked my HR department for help and they got me in contact with an insurance broker that they use. He was able to get me an amazing deal (cheaper than what I was paying at work) for really good insurance.

I have a plan that allows me 2 visits a year for $30 and then everything else is 80/20 of s&c in network. It doesn't sound like much, but it saves me a ton of money. '

Make sure to evaluate your insurance needs and don't under or over insure yourself.

I see you are in northern NY, any chance you can move to VT? We have a great health care system here. Something affordable for everyone. We may the first state to have single payer health care, the govt. is working on it.

I also pay for my own health insurance. It's a pretty basic plan, only allows 2 office visits per year but there are prescription benefits. I have dental coverage through dentalplans.com. The dental is NOT insurance, it is a discount program so if you are interested in that you can search your zip code or by dentist last name to see who takes this in your area.

When I had to buy my own health insurance, I went with a company that would base the rates on my physical health. I did 2 days of "intense" physical examination. I ran a mile, got an exam by their doctor and submitted my complete medical records. My rate was less than $100 a month.

If you are in good health, there are quite a few VERY good alternatives.

    Goodluck.
